Slightly more specifically, Jaune is based of Joan of Arc because she disguised herself as a man to 'join' the French army to lead them in pushing the British out. Pyrrha is based off an adventure of Achilles' where he was dressed up as a woman (named Pyrrha) in order to hide.

For all the characters references, spoiler free ^^ - Ruby Rose is based of Little Red Riding Hood (I mean, she's the most obvious of the bunch, designwise) - Weiss Schnee is based of Snow White (in german, Weiss means White, and Schnee means Snow) - Blake Belladona is based of Belle, from Beauty & the Beast (bookworm queen + "Belle", "Belladona", ykwim) - Yang Xiao Long is based of Goldilocks (the first Grimms she fought in these episodes were bear-like, and if you touch to her hair, brace yourself 8'DD) - Jaune Arc is based of Joan Of Arc (sword & shield combo for medieval aesthetic, and yea, Jaune is litteraly Yellow in french) - Pyrrha Nikos is based of Achilles (legendary greek hero of Troy's War, Nikos is I think reffered to the greek goddess of victory, Nikke, and her whole aesthetic is ancient greek flavored ~)

only just realized that a phrase I've highly associated with Weiss all these years actually came from Ruby XD! Fun fact RWBY has/had an official japanese dub because Japan ADORES rwby to the point where the first two episodes of certain seasons aired in theaters iirc! When Yang fights the Bears (a hint to who she's based on btw) she goes ORA ORA ORA ORA!!!!! :D

You did clock Glynda's name, and thereby wonder if that man is the Wizard of Oz for that reason, I would just say that is name does happen to be Ozpin and he does happen to be wearing green, and these episodes do take place in the Emerald Forest, but I would also say Wicked the musical/movie/book is like a very big departure from the source material of the Oz books and movies

The red-headed girl is named Pyrrha, which is spelled that way because of the Greek derived saying "a pyrrhic victory", it's also kinda like "pyre". If you asked me about that scene, I would have said Weiss has a HUGE crush on Pyrrha but doesn't understand it and is doing the classic rich/mean girl thing of sublimating her feelings, perhaps not unlike Sasha in Amphibia
