Development Blog - January 20... (weird)... 24
🕑 Added 2024-01-02 21:19:54 +0000 UTCHi all, it’s development update time.
So it's been a bit of a rollercoaster since the December 1st launch of Origin Story Chapter 1 and while dealing with all the community engagement and promotion, I’ve been juggling working on various things for chapters 1 through 4. Yes, even the already-released chapter 1 (more on that in a bit).
But I’ll start with this. When I’m playing an AVN, I love when devs show love for others devs and have their AVNs reference other AVNs or even acknowledge they exist in the same universe, and I’ve always wanted to do that too. The trouble is, I don’t have the option to crossover because my AVN clearly exists in a universe far removed from other AVNs. But this is a story with a “superhero” background to it after all, and superhero stories will often pull on the idea of the multiverse (clearly evident by the past few years of superhero media). Is it too much of a stretch to believe that other AVNs exist in parallel universes alongside Origin Story’s universe? Probably not.
I’m not going to have the MC visit other universes, have their characters visit Origin Story’s, or anything that substantial (and frankly too distracting from the main story for the sake of a fun easter egg), but I think I have come up with quite a unique way to pay homage to other developers and AVNs that I appreciate and have even inspired me.
I’ve been speaking to some devs of my favorite AVNs for their permission to honor their games, some in more substantial ways than others. I won’t name which devs or AVNs they are so as not to spoil the surprise, but let’s just say some of them are pretty huge. Huge enough, that I was kinda terrified approaching them for fear that they would all be too big for their boots to acknowledge a tiny new dev like me. Color me pleasantly surprised and relieved. Every single one I have spoken to were not only incredibly nice but honored that I would pay homage to them. I’m still waiting to hear back from one I have only just approached, but I’m hopeful I’ll have their permission too because honestly that’s the favorite of my tributes.
Now onto what I’ve been working on for future chapters.
Chapter 1:
I always wanted to avoid re-writing stuff on already released content, that’s why I tried to write so far in advance, but sometimes an idea still hits in hindsight.
I’ve edited the opening narration a tiny little bit, just to flesh out the world a bit more and give a bit more backstory on the history of Metagen and how it affected the world when it first hit. There may be an extra render or two added into the intro.
I’ve also added 65 renders and extra content into the “free-roaming” event in this chapter, specifically when watching the TV. I wanted to add more lore to the world and what better way to do it than have the MC browsing through various TV channels. It’s also given me an opportunity to do some foreshadowing of future events, reference other smaller elements that crop up in the future and inject some more humor (not gonna lie, one of the scenes made me laugh hard when I came up with it… I hope it does the same for players).
All this content will be added at the release of…
Chapter 2:
Since I originally declared Chapter 2 as complete, and released the first two chapters as a demo, Chapter 2 has undergone a lot of changes to the handful of people who played it. There has been a lot rewriting and some alternate scenes for declining certain LIs or opting out of lesbian content etc… I’ve added roughly 150 extra renders into this chapter. Pushing the total up to about 800.
Chapter 3:
Again, a little bit of rewriting and alternate scenes on this one to account for the option to decline certain encounters and lesbian content. This what I am currently working on. So far there are only 44 extra renders for the alternate scenes, but I expect this will be closer to 100 when I’m done. Which will make the total around 700.
Chapter 4:
An of course I’m plodding along working on Chapter 4 too. Not much to say on this other than I’ve got nearly 400 renders ready for it. This will be quite a big chapter so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm hitting 1000 renders by the end of it.

Overall, still aiming for, and on track for, a February release of Chapter 2. So stay tuned for further updates.
Alright, that’s enough for now. See you later!
