Update - Current Strength Coding
🕑 Added 2017-04-27 23:44:55 +0000 UTC Hello everyone,There's a very high chance of the beta for Version 4 coming to all of the $10+ Patrons this weekend.
If (and only IF) I do make this deadline, then you can expect me to create another "What should I work on next" Paid Poll. (Next update, 4.1, will have competitions. So this will determine what comes after that.) This will give the ~30 new patrons (whew) since the last paid post a chance to process a pledge and get access to the beta. In the event the 4.0 beta is released on here this weekend, please adjust your pledges accordingly.
I figure I'll share with you the current coding behind the strength system. It's not set in stone, and the numbers are all subject to change. (Hell, knowing me, there's a chance it doesn't actually fully work yet -_-;;;)
Go ahead and download + open the attached file if you're interested.
So this probably looks like a bunch of gibberish to most of you, so I'll break it down:
In the older version of the game, the GF required a flat amount of "workout points" to level up. Now she has a scaling requirement that increases with level. It's currently set so she initially requires 10 'experience', and every time she levels up that requirement increases by 5. This is now true for Endurance and Flexibility as well.
The next chunk of code dictates the amount of points rewarded for the main activities of the game. I have it set so at level 1 she gains a sizable amount of XP from pretty much everything, but tapers off quickly. For example, at level 1 she gains 5 points from running; so she can level up by running twice (I figure she is totally untrained, and is building up her leg muscles). But at level 2 (which requires 15 xp to level up) she only gains 4 points. At level 3 (20 xp to level up) she only gains 3...
Fatigue is a new stat used to determine if a character has exercised that day. Since there is now a time system, simple activities no longer consume the entire day - so as long as a character has physical activity, they won't incur atrophy. In a future update, I plan on expanding upon the fatigue system, turning it into a limiting factor for how much a character can do each day (with ways to increase it of course)
Despite this, the girlfriend will always gain 20 XP from lifting weights currently. That said, she can still outgrow her weights - in that case, she won't be allowed to perform the activity until you buy heavier weights. Overflow experience doesn't carry over.
Now some of you are likely concerned that at the higher levels, like 20+, there will be excessive grinding.
That's not the case. You will see something called "Gmodifier". This is a multiplicative bonus to the amount of strength XP she gains. (or, if she has less than 5 endurance, a small penalty). There will be ways for her to undergo "evolutions" that increase the base rate at which she gains strength XP. I currently am planning for evolutions and other upgrades to be purchased at a surgery center, and perhaps for a high intelligence girlfriend to be capable of evolving herself once or twice.
Additionally you'll be able to buy + consume "preworkout" powders that doubles the amount of xp a workout gives her (or more precisely, adds +1 to the modifier). And on top of that, the player can now help train the GF, and he can become more adept as a personal trainer for her.
And of course, you can still use potions, magic, and inventions to bolster the girlfriend.
As I said, I still have to do some testing (and you'll be able to provide input + feedback during the beta period) to get these numbers just right. And hey, maybe if the system sucks, I'll scrap it for something else.
Thanks for your patience, and I hope everyone loves the final product!
