Life Sim Workouts Alpha 1
🕑 Added 2021-05-01 03:26:11 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
The initial release of Life Sim Workouts Update is finally here. This version is still missing 2 of the workouts, along with further polishing. I will have an updated version of the beta uploaded here this weekend. (And will continue to update the game as feedback comes in)
For now those who wish can check out everything else that's finished in the attached zip file. Please note that I will be adding a google spreadsheet to report bugs starting with the next update.
Workout Descriptions Overhaul:
(The following things are currently missing: Planks, Bodyweight Squats/Lunges, Updated Ulric Home Gym Descriptions, ~50% of the updated nightmare collar interactions)
Upon replaying the game I was dissatisfied with the workout descriptions. There was too much repetition and a lot of them made little sense. The old descriptions have been replaced with a new system with randomization. This means that the old descriptions are no longer accessible - the plan is to implement some of the better ones into future game content however.
The old home gym is now a pair of adjustable dumbbells (that you purchase heavier plates for), which makes far more sense for an apartment setting.
When working out at home with dumbbells, characters will do 2 of the following exercises selected at random: bicep curls, tricep extensions, chest presses, shoulder presses, squats, lunges, calf raises.
These are pulled from an array that resets itself when it has less than 2 variables inside it. This means that you should see the game cycle through the different workouts before they're repeated. More workouts can be added in future updates that can slot into the array system easily.
There are currently ~28 - 34 quick descriptions for the girlfriend for each exercise, based on muscle level. More can be slotted in fairly easily in future updates if desired.
The player currently has a single description for each workout with a weight variable that is based on his strength.
After the workout the girlfriend will have a quasi-random dialogue based on her strength level. There is an initial new message for each new level, then if that has already been displayed, one of 10+ messages for various muscle ranges will appear (lvl 1-4, 4-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30+)
The player now has new options regarding the girlfriend's workouts: you can choose to Watch or Coach her. Both options will grant her bonus experience points - watching motivates her, while coaching improves her form and focus.
In order to coach the girlfriend you must receive training at the Central City Quick College. Currently only the personal training course for the player character is available, and it consists of paying a 1 time fee to immediately gain the coaching option.
Calisthenics have been upgraded considerably as well. Instead of the old generic description, characters will now do one of three workouts: Push Ups, Planks, Squats + Lunges.
The Push Ups activity uses 40 unique descriptions for the girlfriend , and 25 for the player (based off of the GF's descriptions). The Planking activity has 21 for both characters (they are similar to each other), and the Squats/Lunges activity reuses the dumbbell Squat/Lunge descriptions for the GF while adding some basic ones for the player.
Additionally, these descriptions will now appear when characters exercise alone.
Art:
Oriander has generously provided a splash screen for the game, thank you!
Minor Experience Points Update:
The following activities can now increase the muscle stat to 1000 (descriptions and art still stop at level 50):
- Calisthenics, Yoga, Running/Treadmill, Construction
The reasoning for this is that since the GF character has 'infinite potential' using her bodyweight to challenge her should let her continue growing past the previous cutoffs. For the construction activity, it's assumed she is lifting increasingly heavy things (work description updates will reflect this)
Note that while these activities can still contribute muscle XP at high levels, they still give a small amount of XP compared to weight lifting, and are far less efficient at higher levels.
New Item: Effort Absorber
Available at Allison's shop on Wednesdays, when the girlfriend wears this item, she will gain all of the experience points the player would have gained during activities performed together.
Revamp: Nightmare Collar
The Nightmare Collar now operates on a charge system. It has 3 charges per day that regenerate when sleeping with it equipped. There are new descriptions for when the collar activates. Since this weakens the collar, its price has been reduced to $666 from $1500. Because of this change, the nightmare collar has been readded to activities that don't pass time like bicep squeezing and ab punching.
Minor Updates:
- When art is enabled images of the GF appear in some story scenes.
- There is now a checkbox on the select activity screen for using supplements instead of a separate screen prompt. You must have supplements in your inventory for it to appear.
- Change number of supplements added to debug room.
- Supplement use text should properly display when used before exercise.
- Reduced cost of exercise analyzer to $50 from $150.
- Rainbow Amulet is now only available at Allison's on Sundays

That's an incredible point, thanks for bringing it up

The rainbow amulet is only available on Sundays, but the stores aren't open on Sundays...

Good catch. This is happening because I added new separate player/girlfriend stamina costs for activities so the player wouldn't lose stamina from watching/coaching. Forgot to add these differentiated variables to the non-physical activities.

I'd like to revamp the entire gym in an update, give it proper workout descriptions for barbell exercises and NPCs to interact with. Effort absorber interacting with other people in the gym would be fun there for sure

Woops, that's an oversight, I'll add it back in. Hopefully test room unlocked at the start is still on as it should be

Small bug: 1 Get stamina to zero (edit: may not require this it seems!) 2 Do an activity requiring no stamina e.g. playing video games or playing chess 3 The current stamina will change from 0 to blank 4 Until you sleep, you have infinite stamina! I've not tested every permutation but I have triggered it on multiple occasions.

I love the idea of the effort absorber. Do you think you could add a bonus + some flavor text if she wears that in the gym? Could be a really fun scenario.

FYI, the backer lockers are disabled in this version looks like?

Do you have the HTML file and the Art folder in the same directory?
