Tourists - short story
🕑 Added 2023-02-01 18:35:28 +0000 UTCFor Hannah and Gretchen, this was supposed to be their leap year after university. They were both proposed brilliant career choices that they could afford to put on hold thanks to their wealthy respective families, and so they did. They had planned a trip around the Asian south east, which came to a sudden stop after a just couple of weeks when they were staying at their very first b&b. They had been attracted by the fact that it looked "typical" and the "true experience" for people who wanted to try and live like the locals; as she drove them from the airport, Jintara, the young owner, went all the way to tell them how she had studied business in the US but eventually decided to turn her grandfather's shack into a luxury stay for tourists. The girls had sounded enthusiastic, but after just two hours that they had spent in the b&b, it was clear that they were too used to the comfort of their european homes to appreciate the place.
No other tourists had ever complained about the services she offered in the year she had stayed open, but these two seemed to find every little excuse to make her life miserable. They had called her to fix stupid things that they could have easily done themselves, and they didn't really care when she had told them that she had to drive one hour from her city to reach the place. They hit the last straw when they called her while she was at work, telling her it was an emergency that they apparently couldn't explain over the phone, only for her to discover that the wifi was "going too slow", and restarting the router fixed the problem immediately. She had shouted at them, but to very little effect, considering that she was at least 20 cm shorter than both girls, and they both seemed insufferably bratty. Seeing their annoyed expression as she scolded them, she decided that they would pay. She swallowed her pride, and offered them a local tea to apologize for acting out like that.
Only, of course, it wasn't really tea. The poison that the girls happily drank was nowhere enough to kill them, but the dramatic side effects were apparent after only a couple of hours. Jintara happily watched as the unconscious blondes rapidly shrank in front of her eyes, and impatiently waited for them to wake up. They made terrible guests, but she would make sure to find other uses for them.
