Post "86: EIGHTYSIX Episodes 1-2 | PATREON EXCLUSIVE SERIES" by "FlexiejayAnime" from patreon

PapaC92

Super underrated anime

IchigoDuzumaki

I can't sleep so I started to watch a fun show lol the point I hear the ending song I started tearing up it's so so pretty

KevinsLunchbox

I started this series when it first came out. I heard it was really good. After 3 or 4 episodes I stopped watching it because I didn't like the main character. While I think her being incompetent is part of her character arc at the start; at the time I was busy and decided I didn't want to invest time into learning this character when I had other things to spend my little time on. So coming back to it now to watch it with Flexie. Maybe she can give me some insights that I never considered. Let's gooooo

Dragoon type, meaning mobile infantry. Its an old horseback military term.

Jarren Jenkins

I'll always take the opportunity to watch 86 with someone who has never seen it. Certainly a gem of a story. Enjoy the ride!

joe

watching reactions to this show from people who actually pay attention is so satisfying. enjoy!

Kruxx

You definitely are paying attention and picking up a lot of things haha great job xD

Darthpenguin

Joined for 86, must admit I was pleased to see just how much you picked up on just in the first viewing. 86 has some top-tier direction, there's so many little things hidden in there. Makes rewatching it pretty rewarding when you get to try and spot it all when you know the full plot.

Scruffy246

86 is my favorite anime, glad to see you react to it.

Jordan

oh shittttttttttttt

Timothy Sharp

Just joined for 86 haha. I love this show so much. One of my top 5 for sure.

Herminio Hernandez Jr

for some background Lena'a family is former nobility from back when the republic was a monarchy 300 years prior. This is why some people call her princess. You are in for a big ride!

Itz A Dolphin

YES! I am ready!!!! Also, the intro changes slightly for each episode. I suggest you watch it and try to figure out the differences. This story is filled to the brim with symbolism. Beautiful masterpiece. Bring on the pain!

Lawrence

What I love about 86 is how beautifully they delivered the story. yes, you can keep an eye on the dates, because they do jump around timelines here and there, keeping track of what happened when can be helpful. However the way everything is structured and layout, it will be very easy to follow along once you get the style of storytelling of the show. so don't stress too much haha. What's amazing about this series is they will let you know what you need to know at the perfect time. So some guessing and theorizing is good, but don't overthink, enjoy as the story unfolds. Another thing I will say, the sound design and music in 86 is incredible, one of the reasons I kept coming back to it, it is such an experience. The OST creeps in to you, until you are done, they are stuck in your head. There are lots of symbolism in the show, some are obvious some are not, but I guess the community will help you with that in the comments. Lastly, I am so glad we are finally starting this show, I really hope you will enjoy and fall in love with 86❤️

Lawrence

Watching with you for the 5th time!!! FINALLY

jastop94

86 is pretty incredible, and very gritty and a reflection of real life. You commented on how they always seem happy go lucky sort of feeling, but that is usually one of the greatest acts of rebellion towards invaders or authoritarians alike. In modern day Ukraine for example, people are often seen doing regular day to day tasks and activities, and it's literally in defiance of their situation. That no matter what, if they were to die tomorrow, they lived today. And that is such a strong thing. We are all guaranteed to die, but tyranny should never be afforded the luxury of taking our happiness from us while we still draw breath. Kind of like how I, and many of my brothers and sisters, were in the Navy and after. We had many friends leave by their own hand or other unfortunate circumstances. We still made jokes about them, but it wasn't to disrespect those that have gone ahead, but it was a way to keep smiling in a situation that was grim because life should be spent enjoying things while once can.

jastop94

To be kind of fair, this happened in a lot of places in almost every continent except Antarctica, and conquerors would often rewrite history no matter who was the conquered. Similar alterations happened with the Bible and other religious texts throughout the centuries in order to subjugate people as well. Though, this particular scenario would be more akin to the rise of Nazi Germany since the Jews, and other marginalized populations, were already within the populace. And instead of taking them to concentration camps to be exterminated, they took them to camps to be of use to the Republic of Magnolia in this instance. And short of the events that occurred around Thanksgiving and why Columbus Day was celebrated, most history classes don't really say that the Colonists and eventual Americans lived happily ever after, they just kind of glaze over it in a hurry and maybe talk about the Trail of Tears, and pretty much never talk about any of the broken treaties that the US and Natives agreed upon at the time, though not really a lie or aberration, simply just omitted in most history Curriculum that is not college level history classes. Kind of like the Japanese in the post WW2 era where they pretty much say, they joined the Axis, they got bombed, They surrendered, then the world is as it is today, and that is really it, and then their younger generations don't get why many people in China and Korea still hold huge animosity towards them. So in the USs credit, they don't really hide this terribleness through lies or altering of history, they just simply omit it from being heavily taught.

Jan Negrey

Yup - processor is dehumanizing them and CPU is exactly the way it should be understood. 86 (term which shouldn't be used, but I use it here for making understandable statement) are CPU's of the "autonomous drones".

FedeZ7

Watching along with you some thoughts i had: From the beginning it was pretty clear that at least the military guys knew they were "human", they even belittled lena on sympathizing (spelling gg) with them. We dont really know if the general public knows, they should at least know that they exist as they only split up 9 years ago, but i assume they genuinely dont know the drones are manned. Also im pretty sure that Spearhead is just the codename of the enitre unit, undertaker = shin and processor is just a word to not call them people. So basically every single one of the 86 in the unit is a processor. Also fun fact: the legion drones names are all German animal names, e.g. Löwe = Lion, Eintagsfliege = Fly etc etc Edit: Calling them Processors makes absolute sense aswell since they are operating the drones like a CPU (Central Processing Unit) is controlling any computer System. So they see the 86 as nothing but part of the drone, nothing more than a computer part, furthering their believes of "its unmanned drones, just a drone and its CPU"

Setsuna

Not me returning to being a patreon to watch your reaction only to be slapped in the face with a second season, pausing writing this comment to check... nothing official yet, tempering my expectations.

James Du Tiger

We need to come up with what Flexie's handle would be with Spearhead....Any thoughts???

MikeyD

I am finding out through your video they announced a 2nd season I am so freaking happy!

RedBeardGaro

I am so excited for this! I love this show so much. You definitely need to take notes as there is always a lot of info shared that you need to remember.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Wow, this seems like The direction America is heading to now.

Paul Dupre

I suggested this show when you first started the Patreon! I'm so glad you're getting to it

Rassaa

Oh my god, so hyped for this!

deranged but not really

pre-watch comment: i'm butthurt my anime lost to this show in the polls.. lol but oh well.. i'll be here to judge very hard lol.. haven't seen the show honestly so i'll be looking forward to figure out hype with show..

Mune Yotsuki

Also, I guess no one warned you in advance, so I'm glad we trusted you to keep watching, but most 86 episodes, at least in the first half, have after credits scenes. Sometimes half the episode is after the credits. So please always watch through to the end. <3

Mune Yotsuki

American history, the truth: So a bunch of white Europeans showed up and waged genocide against the native peoples and stole their land, used slaves to build everything, and then wrote their own crimes out of history! :D It would be vastly better than the crap taught in schools right now.

Mune Yotsuki

Yessss.

David DiNenna

So excited!

Kruxx

Let’s goooooo!

Red Moon {赤い月}

After watching the first two episodes in dub and now comparing it to the sub I can say I like the dub better, Shins English VA is amazing. But I'll still enjoy Flexies reactions.

Jan Negrey

To be exact many episodes have "mid-episode" credits. Or "Intermission".

Jan Negrey

Just be careful of reading spoilers. Most of the comments are okay, but they have to be vetted. If you have any questions I can provide them - without spoilers, up to the last episode that Flexie will react to. Of course at the moment most of the answers are: "You will find out later" ;)

Jan Negrey

yup

Red Moon {赤い月}

We all know she is subbed

soulholders

Please break out the notebook! It's important to keep up with the dates on screen. I think you got the wrong impression from that military guy calling her "princess". She's not an actual princess, that guy was making fun of her.

Ecodude

Happy that you are taking your time to understand what's happening so I'm excited to watch your reactions. The series has a lot of symbolisms and subtle foreshadowing throughout the episodes so usually by doing reactions people tend to miss some stuff which can lead to some misunderstandings and confusion in the future. Also, nice catch about the dates lol the series goes back and forth with the perspectives and dates to build the plot between the 2 sides.

Jan Negrey

Vatzlav - might be easier for you. Czech name. Vladelina is also slavic.

Jan Negrey

Flexie's Dyslexia strikes again ;) Not hating or anything, but if you want to know how it's pronounced - it's MAG-Nolia. Like a flower.

Jan Negrey

It's seriously worth waiting and paying to watch you react to this.... Favorite reactor reacting to one of my favorite shows.

Richard Gerth

this show is just something else, the emotion and writing is just on another level. and yes u might want to bring a note book lol.

Caradoc Elmet

Why does it keep showing the flowers? Well, the name of the place is San "Mag-nolia", as in the blossoming trees and shrubs. You keep transposing the g and the n to say "Man-golia", which you can continue to do if you like. I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing it out because I think it's relevant to your question about the flower. There are lots of species of magnolia so I assume the flower is a blossom from one of them. They're similar to the magnolia trees in my garden, but not quite the same, and my horticultural knowledge is very poor so I can't name the exact species they would be from. I hadn't seen this show before tonight, but I saw your upload so I watched the first two episodes on Crunchyroll and then your reactions. You always help me to better understand the world, so thanks for that. I don't mind all the pausing and replaying at all. It's one of the reasons I'm here. Keep it up :-)

Wheaty

I'm so so excited for you to watch this. Made the jump from YouTube to Patreon and this way is so much better for your reactions. This probably one of my favorite of all time and you're so so excited. Plus your commentary is too notch. Lastly, almost every episode has an after credit scene. Make sure to watch them all

pocketaces

Love this show so much; can't wait for you to love it too!

John

Definitely been waiting ages for this. I am a bit sad it will end up being subbed but I will still enjoy following along. RIP Billy.

Mike E

RIP Billy Kametz. He was such a great actor. From what I understand, he didn't get to dub the final couple episodes before he passed.

oVErlORbVR

Ah caps

oVErlORbVR

i'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!

Chris Giroux

For anyone who hasn’t heard this dubbed do yourself a favor and listen to shins English VA…. it is mind blowing…

Renaud Nadeau

Yeah... Lena is a bit too good hearted for her own good in some ways at the start.

The Card

I have been waiting for this! Absolutely one of my favorite anime, and have always hoped you'd get to it!

Renaud Nadeau

If someone hasn't mentioned it, the OP and ED are used as perspective swap scenes. So they will not be at regular times throughout the show. Sometimes you might get an OP 1/3 oft he way through the episode, or an ED 1/2 the way through. Keep that in mind.

Bojacks🤓

Ah shit, here go again 😃

Chris Giroux

ITS FINALLY HERE!!! BEEN WAITING SINCE THE POLL!!! P.s. get you’re tissues ready

Noah

its finally here!!!!!! my favorite anime!!

Renaud Nadeau

No problem with the pausing, there is a ton of information to digest.

Josh Herrera

To think I originally watched this anime as something to play in the background, then ended up binge watching it. This is a show I refuse to take off my watchlist, whenever I try to clean it up.

nordquist7516

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO *Edit and yeah as you can already see, the flowers are fake/plastic magnolia flowers, a metaphor for the country. You have and are about to witness some s-tier smash cuts and some of the best auditory/visual transitions in anime.

B11zzard1991

Oh man. Saw the drop but couldn't watch right away. Extremely excited. It's my top3 show at this point. The only one i read LN for. I usually don't do that but i assumed season 2 would never happened and i just needed to know the rest of the story.

Alpi

Hell yeah, finally!

Shucks

A couple technical things about this anime: 1. There is some incredible staff behind this show, including Hiroyuki Sawano, who composed the music for AoT as well. He made the OST and I believe the ED as well (might be my favorite ed for how its used). 2. Theres a lot of interesting symbology type stuff going on. When talking about the future of the 86 the camera pans to bones and meat with ketchup from their dinner, as well as a can with bullet holes on it. You can imagine what the implication is with that, especially with how we saw Kudo at the end of ep 1. Its a little disturbing because that sort of thing is done constantly like the creampuff splattering right before cutting to a battle. 3. Spearhead is just the name of the squadron shin and the other 86 we've seen belong to. Processor is a term used by handlers to dehumanize the 86 in combat. Juggernaut is the name of what the 86 pilot, Legion are the autonomous mechs they are fighting against. The 85 districts are everything inside the wall, and can be thought of as counties or cities. District 1 serves as the capital. 4. To clarify, to be an Alba ("evolved human") you need both silver hair and silver eyes. Anything else is classified as an 86. This anime really kicks in next episode, can't wait!

Jake Thompson

It's here, it's here it's finally here. THANK YOU There's a bit of wordplay here that's pretty clever, as the term "86" refers to someone being kicked out or banned from a place, hence the 86 are the ones forced out of both the 85 districts as well as from the category of "human" by the Alba inside.

Alderanex

Still getting goosebumps when the music sets in at the start of the fight in ep 2.. That insert song‘s called The Answer, and i think you should treat yourself to the soundtrack, at least the op/ed‘s and insert songs, most by Hiroyuki Sawano. At least AoT level, for me. That said, i am looking forward to watch it again with a thorough reactor like you, it‘s fun already.

Jessica McCann

Thank you for being here!!! 👏🏼 I appreciate it, and I’m genuinely looking forward to experiencing this anime 🥹

Armando

The promise was to not forget about them. To remember them. Shin cuts out the insignia of their machine and writes their names.

Andrew S

I’ll start by saying that I love this anime… but it was one of the hardest watches for me as a military vet

Cassii

came to the Patreon just for this, I've seen this anime at minimum 15 times, its by far my favorite anime, not sure if you interact with comments much but ill be stopping in on these reactions at least to help clarify maybe any non-spoiler questions you might've had throughout the reaction, hope you enjoy, cheers!

Mack Millicco

Very happy to get this show on the road.

Akabendu

Also, always pay attention to the dates. Lots of jumping back and forth.

A Human Fish

86 is one of my favorite anime’s and I can’t wait to see someone first reaction to this. You don’t need to but you can watch the opening most of the time because it does change multiple times throughout the first half of the show so keep an eye out for what those changes are

Shucks

I will say, ep 1 is probably the weakest ep. Its a lot of exposition very quickly, I can understand why but it is certainly jarring.

Armando

I’m hype for this! You are going to love it!

S

I’d love to live in a paradise like that with an endless supply of Mangoes to eat everyday. Better than living in real Magnolia any ways.

wyggles

86 has some of the best directing in the business. Pay attention to scene transitions and stuff like that. Also, if you'll notice, it never switches between Lena and the 86's POVs in the same segment. They're always separated by the OP/ED or the title card. It really cements the separation of the two groups in a cool way.

Temojikato

Mangolia is crazy x)

SecondCityKyle

Also rule for 86 watch or check after the ED until you here them say the next episode name, there are a lot of post credits. Some are short some are like EP2 and are like 5 mins long

Astriea

I'm so excited, this is one of my favorites!!!

Buki

This a great anime truly underrated but also a diamond in the rough

Pedro Hernández

Finally, after an agonizing wait.🥳🥳🥳🥳 A very short but wonderful anime. And although its continuity wasn't clear at first, they managed to conclude the season quite well. And it's one of the few anime where CGI is well used when necessary.

Akabendu

Tis as they say. We shall answer whatever questions you have, without spoilers.

dairyhouse

I remember the first time I watched this there were some important plot details that I missed or didn't understand fully. But after a second watch I grasped them a lot better. So if you have questions or get confused ask us. We'll try to help without being spoilers

East_Coast_Overseer

I'm so happy we are checking this out, one of my fav anime of all time!

Abracalabrador

Oh hell here we go

Akabendu

Maybe we should have warned her about this anime.

Akabendu

And over an hour long lol... I think she had some things to say.

Wheaty

Let's go!!!! 86 is such a phenomenal anime!! Excited to watch this tonight.

SecondCityKyle

Two eps!

Avid Ghasem Pour

First time watching this! Sooooo glad to experience 86 with this community

Shucks

LETS GOOOOOOOO

dairyhouse

Oooooooohhh shiiiii here we go!

Kosse K

I've been waiting for this!!! I don't have time to watch it yet but looking forward to it!

S

Here to rewatch this with you guys. I’m excited! Let’s Go! Got Popstep’s VA as Lena in this one apparently which is cool. Edit: 86 is a term I hear used sometimes in Gordon Ramsay’s shows lol. Apparently it’s a term that used when an item is permanently removed from the menu. So in the anime’s case it means 86 are just disposable.
