This is gonna sound like it's comin' out of nowhere, but I saw a video of a Space Marine singing I'm Still Standing while doing Space Marine things and... and now I need a Vegeta cover... or Krillin.
I like the realization and shift in intention because it feels organic. Also the impression is great because it strikes so true to Trunks' desire for recognition from Geets while also making him sound so needy because of it. 10

In my mind, Cell still always had the plan to make the tournament. He would have killed Trunks in battle, but killing him after breaking his spirit and his pride would have been mercy. Also maybe with reaching his perfection, his Goku is pushing his Freeza aside, so he wants him to become a challenge.
