I'm curious how you can give melora so much praise when it's guilty of the same blatant virtue signaling and outright lazy storytelling as this episode. What's the difference? Both try to force some virtue onto the audience and it's totally unearned

This is one of my favorites, but I also saw it when it first aired, and the issues it was commenting on were only just beginning to be addressed by the world at large.
