This guest's particular area of parapolitics is not really up my alley (feels like the subjects of the CIA and the Cold War have been mined for all their worth for about a decade now) but the Nixon and Reagan impressions were shockingly good, and I did learn a lot about Gerald Ford that I didn't know

Top tier classico episode. Desperately want a multipart series on the Fords with Don as the guest

Let me start by saying great episode With that said I miss Liz... im sorry how did he get away with saying the name "Dicky Bissell," under normal circumstances that would have been a minimum 2 minute diversion

Solid episode and I would enjoy more history lessons please. You guys mostly covered this but to add re. Betty ford pill addiction- she originally went to a doctor for what was deemed a pinched nerve after she was alone watching the kids at home and was struggling to close a sticky window and it fell on her neck/shoulder. She was then hospitalized and prescribed a shit ton of everything you could imagine. (https://www.nytimes.com/1975/05/25/archives/bettyford-in-tiptop-shape-after-grueling-fourday-trip.html ) So it truly is a prescription to addiction pipeline as you say. There’s actually a semi solid limited series form showtime called “the First Lady” that I *think* does Betty ford justice AND has an incredible take on Barack Obama as basically your average Jason sudeikis character (as in, the actor playing him just does a Jason sudeikis impression as far as I can tell and it’s hilarious ). Highly recommend. I didn’t know how incredible Betty ford was until I saw it years ago and then read a lot about her . American hero if there ever was one 🫡

Brace, I am class of 2000 from prep school (in Philadelphia, which is somewhat underrated in terms of the prevalence of its bourgeois networks) and people did indeed social climb via football to get into the Ivy League, but the real secret was to be on the rowing team. If you were dumber than a bag of hammers but your dad had some money, you could easily get into an Ivy League school if you were willing to do that completely brainless sport for 4 years. It was not very difficult to get a 3.0 grade point average, even back then when we had Latin class and such. If you can barely read, all you gotta do is cheat. Works every time. This was not me, btw, I did try to be a part of that culture because I wanted to fuck skinny blonde girls at the time, but even when I was in world class shape and rocking a crew cut, at heart I was still always an autistic suicidal nerd who couldn’t hang. Thank fucking Zeus.
