Some of my older scenes had the root control active. This would prevent you from moving your character while in an animation.
It's easy to deactivate and wont be a problem going forward, but I still have some of my older scenes that needs to be updated.
Until then this is your DIY guide

Correct. Its because the first animation in all my poses are being applied as a transition. So basically, if your chosen character doesnt "fit" the animation, you can stop the first animation, put the time slider to 0, move your character into position by the root and then overwrite pose. When overwriting the pose, do it for both characters

This is very useful. I have also found that while stopped you can click POSE and check the 'Apply pose on transition' then clicking 'Overwrite pose' seems to solve some pose problems when switching animations.
