I can totally understand where some of Subaru's inner thoughts come from because it can be really hard to accept the kindness of others when you have no love for yourself.

I see what you mean. But I can also see why people gravitate towards it. Most rom com animes do the whole dance, or beating around the bush with every topic. While this anime, although seems unaturally forced at times, gets straight to the point through conversation. But the conversations, and characters still feel relatable to me at least, but I do see why people might find it overly cheesy 🤣

I'll be honest: this is the last episode I was able to watch (I had 2 tries and failed 😅). I find it too cringy. It is like trying to make something like "Dangers in my heart" but trying too hard. It feels a bit forced, it feels it tries too hard to catch you with the emotional stuffs.
