Im glad someone else already replied and pointed this out. But yes. You have to remember that the premise of their relationship is that he *won't* be like every other dude in the school and hitting on her/courting her constantly. The first half of the season we watched him struggle to hold himself back because she is frankly adorable. He is still struggling, but now she's *actively* trying to get him interested. In other words, she's trying to break the walls down that she forced him to build. Wonder what itll take to get through it.

I think that’s also the reason why they back peddle so much, they do and say things without thinking and then they realize that the other could be uncomfortable for that and they try to back out.

I agree, and I think he also struggles because the premise of their relationship is that she could come over to cook because she trusts he wouldn’t hit on her. They set that boundary in episode 1 when they didn’t really know each other and now they don’t know if the other is okay with that boundary removed.

Before this episode I think Mahiru knew that she had some kind of feelings towards Amane, but she hadn't really realised or admitted to herself yet that she was interested in him romantically. I think after he supported her in the previous episode, she's fully realised her feelings, and in this episode we start to see her making a conscious effort to get him to look at her in the same way. But it's a struggle because of how Amane is always trying to be such a gentleman, and because he thinks he's not worthy so he doesn't realise how much it affects her when he casually compliments her.
