^^^^ What lunebel said. Most of the notable characters are based of real people, even some of the events are based off history. Of course artistic liberties were taken, but i think it makes it that much cooler. This show is amazing!

What I love about this anime is that the plot is built around actual historical figures and events. Like the Jomsvikings were a real order of Viking mercenaries and the first European to step on American soil was Leif Erikson who established a settlement somewhere in Coastal Canada which he named Vinland.
