You kind of hit the nail on the head there "if you had a sister" "if you were in that situation", Einar probably thought the same way as you before he was actually in that situation. Most people probably think that way, me included. Like the first episode opens up with him talking about how he has to train because he has to protect them to the end like their father did, but when actually thrust in the situation he was completely helpless and overwhelmed and even when he belatedly took action it was meaningless.

I’ve genuinely always hated Einar because of this moment. I admit that I will never know the shock of seeing your parent die in front of you but because he didn’t take action and ran with his sister and protected her, she ended up dying. Like if I had a sister I’d do everything in my power to protect her until the end. To hell with my emotions. And it just triggered me so much.

I think the scream you hear from Einar when he's taken as a slave is actually overlaid with Thorfinns from the end of S1

the tone/style/mood is different because the manga is written that way. The same team of people worked on both and adapted it near perfectly.

I think you are being a bit unfair to Einar. He didn't admire warriors in any way, he just (in a childish, naive way) wanted to train to fight in order to protect his home. That is very different from Olmar, who thinks that there is glory to gain from being warrior and that farm work is below him.

Oh cool, didn't know that. But I feel like there's still some difference in how the characters are drawn, it looks kinda similar to AOT season 4 onwards with the shading and the thin body outline.

The only thing that changed was the studio, the same team (director, animators, etc.) that worked at WIT moved to MAPPA and worked on Season 2.

1st season was by WIT, season 2 onwards will be by MAPPA thats why the tone/style/mood of this season is very different to what Vinland Saga originally was like.

3 years is very optimistic, and he says as much... but clearing the land and creating a wheat field is not unattainable. Pater did it. It has to be a very large field to produce a profit greater than cost of buying/feeding T&E plus what he thinks their value would be if he kept them as his slaves. So while he seems like (as Prez said) the best of a bunch of bad people by giving them a chance at buying their freedom, obviously he's not doing it out of the kindness of his heart.. Back to the 3y. Clearing the land will take the longest. Cutting and moving the trees is just the first step of clearing. You have to get the stumps out, get the stones out, and some other stuff like brush clearing just to get the field ready for tilling and soil improvement. THEN you can do your first planting. Then you have to maintain the crops and soil, protect it from animals, pests, thieves, weather, weeds, etc. It will take way longer to clear than it should with the shithead retainers dumping their jobs of collecting the lumber on T&E, with one old horse, and inadequate food for crazy manual labor. Important to remember Einar is/was a farmer. If they can clear the field his knowledge/skills should help get high harvest yields. That could make up for some of the time their sinking into this first phase, so 3y might be possible, but not with these conditions. I don't think he knows his retainers are forcing our boys to do their jobs, or using one old horse, or stealing their food.

Okay, I know the motor cycle "intro" confuses people. The Producers of Vinland is a company called Twin Engines, thus the motorcycles. For every show they produce have their motorcycle logo but then slap on the anime studio's logo on the back of one of the riders. I also need to clarify this, technically the animations was done under the MAPPA studio BUT the same team that worked on it at WIT worked on season 2. The poem "Carve it" at the beginning of the first episode was spoken in modern Icelandic. Reminder Thorfinn attack the Canute, the new King that can not go without punishment, which is typically death but Canute sold him into slavery instead. S1 ends in Feb 1014 and S2 starts in June 1015, and Thorfin is 19. Can't tell you have much I love Season 2. Everything is really good, the pacing, the art, the music, the story telling and the emotions.
