They watched the video on YouTube after they realised Kana had a lot of other songs listed on the karaoke system (listening to it *on* the karaoke wouldn't have been a good presentation of it, which is why they checked out the original video).

Japanese VAs most of times can sing really well, some of them even make a lot of money with that. There are a LOT of animes that the openings or endings songs are performed by the VAs for the characters in the show, and because of that they even go to events and anime conventions to sing these songs.
