According to Maomao's theory, which she convinced herself is not true (I think it's because she doesn't want to think of Jinshi as a prince), the swap would've been single-handedly conducted by Lady Ah-Duo. Since her child already got treated as less important on his birth and she was fearing for his life. But she also mentioned that this swap would've been later noticed and could be the real reason why her dad was expelled. He is not responsible for Lady Ah-Duos tragic incident in labour since he can't split himself in two, so that would be a really bad reason. But that would mean that the Emperor and Lady Ah-Duo would be aware that Jinshi is their son and not the Emperors brother. Of course if the theory is wrong he doesn't have to be either one.

Jinshi being Ahduo’s son (which I 100% believe) would make him 18 years old, only at most 1 year older than Mao. I love this point because i hear people complain about the age difference between Jinshi and Maomao. I personally love them as a potential FUTURE couple because i think they mellow each other out but his station makes their relationship inappropriate. Also i’m pretty sure she’s Ace, maybe even aroace so lots of development needed to cement them as an actual couple.

From the info we have. What I believe is that Jinshi is the Emporers son if we believe the babies were switched. I 100% believe it, and like you thought Ah-Duo was Jinshis mom before this episode. If that's the case. Jinshi is The Crown Prince right now even if he was born while the Emporer was a Prince and not the Emporer. I believe that Jinshi, Ah-Duo, abd the Emporer all know this, and they are keeping it a secret because Ahduo may get punished, It will make the Emporer look bad, and it would be a major headache for everyone involved.

With the current emperor not having a surviving male child, Jinshi as the emperor's "brother" IS the current heir to the throne if the emperor dies.

Based on this conjecture, yes Jinshi is the current emperor's son. However, on paper and what is known to everyone else, Jinshi is the emperor's younger brother. Technically a prince, but not a direct heir to the current emperor. As of this moment we do not know if the emperor himself is aware of the switch.

Wait, if I am not mistaken, Concubine Ah Duo had Jinshi with the current emperor so Jinshi is his son, rather than his brother. Please let me know if I am wrong, there's a good chance I got them mixed up, but I am almost sure of it. Lishu was the Concubine of the old emperor. Ah Duo was never with the previous emperor, only with the current one. She was his friend at first and then became his concubine. During the tea party in the garden episode it was explained that Lishu was also the concubine of the previous emperor (because he loved young concubines) and how technically Lishu could be consider the mother-in-law (somewhat) of Ah Duo even though in reality the roles are reversed due to the difference in age.
