Just Happy to see your reactions to it, before you started Frieren I thought it would be better to watch it offstream (not as a reaction) but I was definitely wrong, you seem to enjoy this "slow" anime very much

About the mage classes, there were a few details you missed that were explained in the episode: Apprentices - 9th to 6th class; Proper mage - 5th class and up (the minimum required to take this test); Number of 1st class mages - 45 (there were 7 in the picture, but there are 45 total, Frieren mentioned it while reading the books).

Übel might be my fav character design she looks so unbothered by everything but has some killer side to her, judging by the intro of her killing bandits and said to have killed a mage in the last exam. Really interested to see how Fern finally stacks up to human mages, i am willing to bet she is prob one of the strongest or the strongest mage in the exam, when she is compared to other mages that arent Elves who have lived so long like Frieren.
