This shows 1st 3 episodes are some of the best I've ever seen as a premise. After that it's just random stuff that happens and the main girl gets written out of the story. But the 1st 3 episodes go hard

This show has one of the strongest opening arcs that I have watched/read in amy media. Also, the deadpan humor between Mai and Sakuta is one of the most realistic and funny ones in anime.

I would not consider this a romcom. It's more romantic suspense/mystery set in an alternate version of our world. Also, the title is entirely accurate and totally misleading.
