From the moment the sun crested the horizon and the first golden rays of dawn lit Kirtanalla's great temple a glorious chorus filled the once silent air. All the city woke to the radiance of her most sacred day. Those still awake after a night laboring to finish the preparations of Kirtanalla's wondrous festival were blessed with a surge of renewed strength. And a swell of warmth deep within their very souls.
Before the first verse of Her magnificent song had even finished all the city around her temple had come to life. The birds joined in the gently booming chorus of music without ever knowing the words as doors were thrown open and people flocked into the streets. Flower petals were gleefully tossed high into the air and swept away on tender winds to fall like snow upon every street and building. Countless voices joined in the every rising swell of music radiating from the temple as thousands more gave thanks to the Goddess of Love on her sacred day.
Even the lords and ladies of Queen's court, often so distant from those they ruled, joined in the celebration without thought nor hesitation. No soul touched by Kirtanalla's majesty could do anything less. Not while the music swelled to ever greater heights and all the world seemed to shine with her grave. To bask in her love as surely as it basked in the ever rising sun. The chill winds and bitter cold of a hard winter held no sway amongst the peoples of Marivalia while they stood in the presence of their Goddess. In little more than their shifts and nightgowns hundreds journeyed to the temple from all corners of the city as hundreds more gathered within every square, park, and plaza to worship and give thanks in their own way. Or simply to feel Her love.
Kirtanalla's festival had yet to truly begin and already a great sense of joy was coursing through the city. Through the very air itself. And though it would last for days upon days, until the High Priestess could sing no longer and, time nonetheless felt impossibly short. So much so casks of ale and mead were broken open and food was shared long before the morning ceremonies had finished. Yet not a single person thought twice about their joyous celebration and not a single worshiper faced even a moment of scrutiny nor reprimand. Indeed even the Queen herself joined in the cheer as those within her retinue and of her House shared their bounty amongst the rest. So great was her enthusiasm and her benevolence she scarcely reached the temple as her subjects flocked to her in endless crowds. But not even the many priests of Kirtanalla would admonish Her Majesty nor the rest. How could they when so many had already joined in the festivities as they spread amongst the people?
Save one who stepped away from the crowds. Who turned their gaze from the temple and Kirtanalla's majesty with a knowing smile...
The acrid smell sulfur and black powder overwhelmed the sweetness once carried upon the winds as a lone figure emerged from a lonely little warehouse in the far corner of the harbor district. It swirled around the hooded figure like a noxious cloud and shadowed his every step as he walked away from the building at a brisk stride. But upon reaching the end of the walkway connecting the isolated building to the lattice of peers stretched out across the water he turned.
From within the cloak shrouding his body a gloved hand emerged, within it a small and crudely carved runestone held tight between his fingers. The sigil etched harshly into it's contours glowed brighter than even the sun shining down upon it and the man's grip tightened. A moment or two later cracks erupted through the stone like it was little more than glass. And a heartbeat after that it shattered in his hand, crumbling to dust that seemed to fade away before reaching the wood slats he stood upon. All the while the warehouse from which he'd emerged seemed to shudder and sink inwards as if it were a flimsy tent collapsing beneath a mighty breeze. The creak and groan of wood twisting under the enormous pressure within momentarily ruined the tender rhythms of Kirtanalla's beautiful song only to fall silent just as soon as they'd begun.
Then in a flash of blinding light the building exploded. Flames licked at uncountable wooden shards as they hurtled outward too fast for any mortal to comprehend. As they erupted into the sky and pierced the waters in a hail of death and destruction that should have shaken the very earth surrounding the warehouse. Yet the lake scarcely even rippled and the man's cloak scarcely even fluttered in the face of the shockwave rippling though the air. All the splinters and shards of wood, metal, and anything else once inside the building seemed to freeze midway through their flight. They hung in the air as surely as the explosion itself like a moment frozen in time.
Not even the flames roaring through the shattered corona moved and the hooded man turned away barely a second after it'd all come to a jarring halt. He walked down the pier at an even quicker pace yet he seemed not at all concerned by the madness left in his wake. The once strained hunch of his shoulders had disappeared and the entire demeanor of his stride seemed to change. Had anyone been present to observe him they might've thought he was... excited. For who or what they wouldn't have known but there was a spring in his step that hadn't existed before. Although any onlookers almost certainly would've found themselves distracted instead by the explosion frozen in time. Especially as it shrank back in on itself like the moments were ticking backwards and the warehouse was repairing itself just as suddenly as it'd been destroyed. Yet instead of returning to how it'd been it collapsed into itself. Into a crumpled, ever shrinking orb of light and fury until simply blinking out of existence just as abruptly as everything else.
Nary a splinter was left of the building that'd once been and nary a mark was left upon the dock once connecting to it. The warehouse simply blinked out of existence without so much as disturbing the fish swimming about the wooden beams and basking in Kirtanalla's song. And the man who'd left it continued on without once breaking his stride. He departed the harbor district without ever glancing back at his handiwork and he slipped out of the city entirely, skirting around the shores of the lake with his hood and cloak shrouding his every feature.
Still awash in the Kirtanalla's music even so far from the city Aya couldn't help but join his voice with the melody, no matter if Marivalia was on the far side of the lake. Lounging beneath the shade of a willow tree bending high above and far over the water he sat upon an unremarkable swatch of line at the edge of the water. He rested against a small assortment of pillows comfortably lifting up one elbow as his other hand idly played with the ceremonial vestments clothing his body. Though to say he was properly clothed would've been quite a laughable notion. To a priest of Kirtanalla especially! By 'traditional' Marivalian standards he wore little more than a few errant strips of white cloth held against his plump figure by jewelry.
Of course compared to his High Priestess he was dressed in the most concealing and restricting attire imaginable! But it suited him well enough as he waited. As he sang his hymns and worshiped his Goddess in his own way. One soon to be enhanced if the soft crunch of boots against the shore was any omen of things to come!
Grimacing at the familiar scent of black powder and sulfur Aya turned to look at his love with a pouty little sigh, “I hardly need to ask why you've kept me waiting.”
“Then don't.” Carroth gruffly replied, approaching Aya and standing above him for a moment, “You look beautiful today.”
Softly glittering chains laden with jewels crossed his bare chest and adorned his brow in the style of Aya's desert homeland, contrasting beautifully with his deep brown skin. His slender shoulders were all but draped in the finery while his arms were left bare down to the bangles wrapped daintily around his wrists. Every rise and fall of his chest filled the air with a soft clink of shifting metals and it only seemed to grow louder and louder as the seconds passed and Aya basked in his love's attention. As his breath quickened and goosebumps slowly dotted his skin. A knowing smile slowly spread across his soft, round face and a flush crept through his cheeks. His dark, endlessly unfathomable eyes sparkled in delight while full plump lips curled ever higher into an eager grin. For all his grumbling and grousing Aya had never been able to hide his true feelings for long. Carroth scarcely had to do anything at all before his lover's facade had melted away.
“I trust the Queen won't call upon you now?” He asked.
“No... my duty is fulfilled and her mind is elsewhere... with the High Priestess no doubt.” Kneeling at the edge of the linen Aya had stretched himself across Carroth spoke the words he always longed to hear, “I'm yours for as long as you'll have me...”
A shiver coursed through Aya's body and the music filling the air around them seemed to swell. Sitting up without a moment's hesitation he licked his lips and reached out to his companion. The long, flowing strand of white cloth normally draped between his legs and across his rump shifted ever so slightly as he moved and Carroth's attention shifted with it. He glanced down at Aya's plump legs with a look Aya knew even while his lover's face remained hidden by the magical shrouding of his hood. It was exactly the sort of look he craved and he couldn't help but tease him just a little bit upon feeling that adoring stare.
Pulling his hand back towards himself with a soft laugh Aya let his fingers trail across the gilded band of metal holding up his skirts. Almost as if he intended to remove it altogether. Carroth stiffened ever so slightly at the motion and quietly laid down beside Aya soon after. Only for his ever bewitching and ever tempting love to smooth out the fabric threatening to disappear between the thick curves of his outstretched legs. To pull and straighten it with wicked intent.
A soft laugh escaped his unseen lips and Carroth reached out to Aya instead, “I've thought of nothing else but you since our last night together...”
Awash in the pleasure of those words yet wholly unable to help himself Aya stopped Carroth's hand with his own. Sitting up and turning towards him he delicately plucked at the glove hiding those rough, calloused fingers and said, “I'm sure you thought of our Queen's orders as well...”
“Would you believe me if I said I didn't?” Carroth asked.
The first two fingers of his glove loosened and Aya tugged on the third while he fought back a smile and said, “Not for a moment...”
Carroth laughed again and Aya giggled, truly unable to help himself in spite of his jealousy. And the simple frustration of his love being pulled away by 'royal duties' far too often for his liking. Of course any absence at all was positively insufferable but at times it seemed like their beloved Queen was deliberately robbing him of his companion. As if she wished to jealousy hide away her most trusted agent. A thought he made no secret of as Carroth's glove finally slid free of his hand and Aya oh so cheekily tossed it away with a little smirk. Though he scarcely had time to revel in his own impishness before those ash grey fingers were caressing his cheek and tenderly stroking his skin. Before he was left completely lost in a tender caress he'd felt a thousand times and yet one he craved a thousand more at the very least.
Covering his lover's hand with his own without a thought Aya leaned into that gentle touch even as his eyes sparkled with mischievous intent. What sort of mischief even he couldn't say but it scarcely mattered. Aya was far too distracted by Carroth finally removing his hood to act upon his silly little thoughts and urges. Merely seeing the scarred features of the man he loved so dearly melted away all else so quickly and so completely he could hardly remember anything before. It'd been so unfathomably long since he stared into those blood red eyes. So long since he could run his fingers through the shock of, often tangled, white locks falling down his face and shoulders. Compared to the long, elegant braid Aya so often wore Carroth's tresses were absolute madness! And of course he loved him all the more for it! Just as he loved the tangled web of scars running across his face and touching every last feature. From centuries old cuts to powder to claw marks he seemed to wear the echoes of every wound imaginable.
And it all made him that much more beautiful. That much more fierce and striking and handsome in the most exhilarating ways even after decades upon decades together. “I've missed you...” Aya finally murmured, averting his gaze and nuzzling against Carroth's hand, “I'm not sure how much longer I could've waited...”
“Now we have all the time in the world to share with one another,” Carroth murmured, cupping Aya's face with both hands and tenderly stroking his skin, “The only question left... is how best to spend it all?”
But it wasn't really a question at all. The words had barely escaped his lips before Aya's hands slid around his broad, muscular shoulders. Before he was pulling Carroth down against him in a blaze of overwhelming passion and truly unabashed lust. Carroth barely had time to grin before he was atop his love, before they were lost in a wonderful embrace. And before Aya's legs were wrapped around his waist as he pulled them together with a single minded passion few could ever dream of matching. All as the simple joy of finally being together erupted between them in a cacophony of emotions too numerous to fully understand. Too wild to dwell on for more than a moment before more arrived to overwhelm the others in a constant, roiling storm. Even without Kirtanalla's celebration their passion would've burned like a raging wildfire but in the throes of her joyous festival? Aya and Carroth were hardly even themselves!
Their kiss deepened and their tongues coiled around one another as soft, breathless moans filled the air alongside that sweet music. The gentle sounds of their ever more giddy kissing soon joined the beautiful chorus and it wasn't long before the rustle of clothes joined it. Namely the rustle of Aya so feverishly pawing at all the stupid clothing his love still wore.
Though his cloak was the first to fall away the unassuming tunic worn beneath it was removed just as hastily. And in much the same way Aya always rid them both of Carroth's garb, “It's fortunate I have little affinity for my clothing...” Carroth laughed, the sound of ripping fabric punctuating his words alongside Aya's laughter, “I shudder to think what might become of items I truly cared about in the wake of your amorous intentions.”
“Perhaps if you didn't abandon me for so long I wouldn't need such feverish excitement!” Moaning as he spoke Aya laid his hands on Carroth's scarred, muscular chest the moment he finished turning his love's tunic into a vest.
“Yes of course,” Carroth murmured. Leaning back down with a slowly spreading smile he slid an arm beneath his lover and softly whispered, “You're the picture of restraint!”
Their lips reunited with those words hanging in the air and Aya delightedly holding on to Carroth like a drowning man clinging to driftwood. With his tunic already ruined beyond any repair Aya didn't hesitate to finish tearing it away from his partner's body. In much the same way he didn't hesitate to run his fingers across every inch of Carroth's skin, goosebumps erupting in the wake of his caress and shudders rippling through them both as they basked in the joy of being together. Once more wrapping around each other their tongues were almost feverish in their mouths while the rest of their bodies slowly caught up to the excitement. To the unbridled passion surging through their bodies as Kirtanalla's music swelled.
As the last tattered remnants of Carroth's tunic fluttered away from his body Aya set his sights on the equally plain and equally irksome breeches keeping their bodies from truly connecting. He even managed to slip his fingers into the belt fastened about them with every intention of forcing it open and tearing it off. But before he had the chance Carroth stole away every ounce of his focus with a simple retreat. Their kiss ended and Aya looked to the love of his life with a mixture of surprise and naked frustration. Or at least he would've had his man not leaned back in to plant a soft kiss on Aya's already unbearable sensitive skin. Kissing him just below his long, tapered ear, right where jaw met neck, was a bold and exhilarating statement that turned Aya into a quivering puddle. “Oh I know...” Carroth laughed. Slowly bearing down on him that little bit more he pressed himself against Aya's body. But even more galling, yet wonderful, than that was how smoothly he returned to the tip of Aya's ear with another flurry of sweet kisses arriving too fast to entirely comprehend. Just as he was reacting to one two more arrived to ravish his senses and leave him feverishly grinding against his lover.
