@LiteWeight Gaming / Reacting Bathroom comments: Your comment about how Walt should be left alone while coughing up a lung (literally) struck me as misinformed. I'm thankful for the man asking Walt if he's alright. Men like to hide their embarrassment/shame/vulnerability of being sick by withdrawing to the bathroom. Having a heart attack? Go to the bathroom. Having a stroke? Go to the bathroom. Showing a bit of kindness to strangers in distress just may save their lives. The rage Walt unleashes on the towel dispenser is healthy. Walt bottles up his emotions and walks around "even keeled" all of the time. His real emotions of anger, stress, disappointment in himself, sadness about his lying and his crumbling relationship with Skyler, the relentless energy required to keep up the facade that he's "okay", all come spilling out and get hammered into that metal box. IMO, there is a connection between venting his emotions with physical violence on an inanimate object and his unleashing of Heisenberg. Both are outwardly showing what is happening on the inside of Walt.

That last scene in the bathroom is such a great example of the genius of Gilligan's writing: If you really want to reveal a character's nature, give them the thing they said they want most.

Man, I love this episode! Absolutely one of my favs and a real turning point in the show imo. Great reaction as always <3

The rage that Walt lets loose at the end of the show is the same as the anger and rage many victims of violent crime feel after they have survived the immediate threat. Even if the mugger or rapist is caught and arrested, as the cancer was here, the feelings of being defenseless and powerless as Walt is with the cancer, and his self perceived weakness of having to rely on others to protect and "help" him is almost more than a man of Walt's pride, (misplaced) dignity and ambition can bear. He thought he was beating all of these feellings and taking charge of the situation through his own wiles and strengths with his grand plan. But then the cancer showed it was really in control by going into remission, wrecking all his plans and reinforcing how completely weak and powerless he really is when he is left to his own strengths and abilities. Its almost as if his mugger broke out of jail and came back and mugged him again. The good test results showed him that the cancer is control of his life and there is nothing he can do about it.
