That fight was much better, the tactics they used let it go quick and since there was less buildup it didn’t need to feel like a huge slog. A swingy battle where the tables could quickly turn and it felt like better move variety as a result. “With Giovanni and Blaine being kicked, Sabrina was the Queen of Kanto. No ifs or buts.” This naturally made me wonder whether Giovanni or Blaine was the more popular Queen :D. TFTC!

Donald Bagwell

Maybe have them recognize izumi as “not prey” but have them try anyway Other than that am i the only one who wants to see big brother titan couch tera and flail at it

BaconDragon

It’s always entertaining to see the story from the perspective of one of the Pokémon. Shin makes for a unique one!

Chris

Spiritomb would be a great Agatha/Brock bonding subplot of finding Odd Keystones in the ruins of Grandpa Canyon and then encouraging Agatha to hold onto it. Maybe she holds onto it for 50 odd chapters and then dies with it, becoming the final soul for Spiritomb to materialize and become someone else’s Pokémon’s.

William Prince

I know it's not a Terrestrial type(ground, steel, rock), but perhaps Spiritomb due to its Odd Keystone?

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

Concept: POV from perspective of fresh caught pokemon who is OP for this trainer (maybe gifted/traded from someone else?). We get to see how Brock deals with a pokemon that doesn't listen to it's trainer, from the Free Spirited Pokémon's perspective.

Donald Bagwell

Some of us have been asking about dark types, most popular thing seems to be sableye for rock theme and some sharpedo stuff because he is kinda a pseudo water bro

Donald Bagwell

1) i can see sabrina showing up one day with matching outfits before she takes brock on another date. Probably matching the “theme” of where they are going or includinf special symbols or things to show they are ‘promised’ to someone. Like the water tribe betrothed necklace from atla 2) imagine flannery, roxane and brawly all under trixie. I can see roxane get it in her head that “Brock is doing it, this must be important and necessary rock type training!” While brawly has a new type of rival. Flannery seems like she is skinny fat? You know the type that can do a sprint or a long walk, look good in nearly anything but on 3 flights of stairs immediately collapses in pain? She seems that type along with roxy 3) i kinda really want brawly to request to learn under her 4) shin is an amazing pokemon and i can see the cerulean sisters ask for some kabutops eggs and trainijg tips for them. Same with omestar. Mostly? For an ancient world style contest show thing. Partially? Because i can see daisy have a small fire lit under her to follow what koga said. give misty her couple years and see where it goes. a poetic thing in cerulean btw is the idea of forest and misty being offered jobs as gym leaders. if misty gets through hoen i can see her being fairly competent and having good diversity. meanwhile forest could be tapped eventually to care for grays old team just a passing thought for the last bit

Donald Bagwell

This comment is made while drunk looking at my countries election

Donald Bagwell

So Don is a COD gamer who is always in lobby/ horror game lover while Shin is someone who likes puzzles in his fighting games?

Caras Galadon

I do have a question tho, will Brock have a Dark type pokemon team? As like, a surprised back-up, cause I think we are due for some new Pokemons soon!

Caras Galadon

Yes.

Chris

Also a huge fan of Pokémon POVS in the battles. Can’t wait to see that in some of the non traditional fights like squaring up with MewTwo and scenarios where the Pokémon faints. It would also be hilarious to see a pov from a fresh caught Pokémon who’s thrown against Brock or Sabrina in a regular gym match. Some poor Caterpie who ends up facing Izumi and can tell the old girls got tricks while their oblivious train calls out bad orders.

I_WANT_SOMETHING_ETERNAL

Maybe go back to it partially?

I_WANT_SOMETHING_ETERNAL

I liked hearing from Shin! I've always liked Kabutops. I look forward to hearing more about Kleavor, Gawain. He's a brand new pokemon form, I think that there would be an exodus to observe him from trainers!

Viva01

Its more fedding into the notes from the game that a contest Explosion is stronger if Earthquake has been used but a combination Eruption/Explosion is really what happened.

Viva01

changed up those notes so Torkoal shows up and does the Sunny Day.

Viva01

Yeah I have been feeling like the fights lacked that since we dropped the verbal commands entirely.

Christopher Ozouf

Yeah it was the one in rock tunnel if I remember correctly.

Michael Ox

I loved the shin viewpoint, it made the fight feel a lot more personal

PiezoVolt

Great chapter loved the different povs. Isn't the rainbow haired girl named Rachel or is that just Flannry not remembering?

Jericho Rising

Probably how earthquake breaks up the field leading to more shrapnel from explosion. Honestly I can see It increasing the damage of both moves.

Jericho Rising

I love how involved it made the fight, the different perspective made the 2 back to back fights not feel redundant in the least, the styles contrasting beautifully.

Jericho Rising

Both of the things I caught mentioned in one comment. Very perceptive, thanks for bringing it up!

SailorOfHouseThunderBird

Charizard, but he didn't solo him. Sanchez hit him with a triple stealth rock at x4 damage followed up by an Explosion to the face before Shin ever got in the ring.

Jordan Lopez

There was already the desire for more of his Pokemon remember he solo'd one of lance's Dragonite(or was it Charizard)

William Prince

Is she supposed to have 2 Camrupts or is one of them supposed to be Torkoal. Also she's met Oak, they've hung out together atleast twice.

Matt H

Isn't Torkoal usually Flannery's starter/ace? Did you mean to have two Camerupts on her team instead of a Camerupt and a Torkoal?

Seanfrks

Didn't Flannery meet Professor Oak during one of the raid on Team Rocket?

Petrox

So ancient Pokémon = caveman mentality? Checks out. Pokémon adapted to human culture and way of thinking

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

@Donald I don't think only talking to ancient pokemon for years is why Shin describes battles like this. I mean, picture how Don would describe a fight. I'm 90% sure that pokemon would describe a fight with *explicit detail* the exact blood splatter that would result from each blow... Don wouldn't be big on describing the why one more over another, but he *would* go big on describing what move and how it worked. Shin, in comparison, seems to focus on challenges (ex. Blaziken was tough so he remembers more of their fight than the first camerupt) and on interactions (how Brock spoke to the other trainer or how the other pokemon spoke to him). Which makes Shin getting a little distracted mid fight to think about mates and his teammates all the more interesting. It shows Shin that while Shin likes a good fight, his focus is really on interpersonal relationships.

The Oblivious Elf

Great chapter, loving how you've taken Shin and made him a powerhouse

Donald Bagwell

Or non social side? Shin basically only dealt with ancients his whole life till brock found him on his joirney

Donald Bagwell

Brock keep forgeting to include “gold”?

ShinLupin

Shin gets to shine and is likely to raise the desire for his kind. Bet there will be suddenly some serious requests for the ancient hunter of the depts. If Shin ever talks to Sabrina, he will rekindle her possesive streak. Could be fun to see Sabrina mark Brock as hers, maybe with a new outfit? And thus the maiden Flannery was offered to the great and mighty Trixie as a fresh scarfice. Maybe the muscle-gods smile on her sweat and pain. Being dark-type seems to mean "troll" for Brock.

Jeet Jeet

Flannery does know Oak as they raised a Rocket base together.

philip

That was an interesting take. Love the POV from Shin aka Kabutops perspective. It was a very interesting intake unlike Titan, Bertha, don and varient golem character. I quite enjoyed it and love forward to see more of character development of shin

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

No, no! I disagree! Keep it as-is! It's funny to imply that Brock also forgot that Oak was there when they did the raid! (Plus, realistic. Who remembers everything perfectly?) Have Brock go to introduce Oak to her and have Oak be all "Oh, but we've already met?" It will be both funny and (a minor bit) embarrassing for the two of them

BlackRazaras

Thanks for the chapter

Squeeky602

Love the Shin POV

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

Lol. I'm loving Shin's POV. Especially when compared to other POVs we've had of fights. Shin is all: "Then a camerupt appeared and rudely cast sunny day. So I spit water on its face. Twice! It was super anoying that I had to spit water at it twice though! It should have gone down in ONE spit! But anyway, then they sent out a doggy and I outran it." It's just- *cackles* it's like having a kid describe a pokemon battle. Which makes sense because I think Shin is supposed to be a little on the younger side?

Donald Bagwell

Did she forget they raided a base together? Or just not remember oak as oak? Also she does not know his legend? Maybe change it to “remember oak?”

Bast

Thanks for the chapter! In the Earthquake makes Explosion stronger sentence, did you mean makes Eruption stronger? Maybe I'm missing something but that makes more sense to me

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

Edit: "Flannery also wasn’t made enough to want to face Brock’s best." I think 'made' is supposed to be 'mad' here
