Jake

Waiting for the day we get a DD from Titan or a double dance from Shin… would solve so many of their issues that have come up in the story (I.e. Shins inability to hit hard enough)

Donald Bagwell

I just had the thought… doesnt he have actual bounties on pokemon? Or straight purchase them? And agatha/ spiritualists need to clear areas of ghosts. I can fully see agatha finding one with some potential and just giving it to brock

Donald Bagwell

I fully expect Karen to see ANOTHER dark type able to mega evolve and find a pair of siblings. The more nasty one for her and the mischievous lil shit for brock that gets one of his siblings being dark type Forest is already steel, yolanda rock, and suzie a psychic/ fairy (girl will definitely copy sabrina for a bit) The idea of, say, cindy? Being a dark specialist and going through rebellious phase? Oh sounds like poetry. But for sableye, its entire thing relates to gems. Sableye would be amazing for both these guys and i think either agatha or karen will point it out. And hey sableye also fits the gyms rock/ cave theme so say he finds a bunch of them or say the league find a bunch of them from the rockets. Who is someone with a gem cave in Kanto, that steven can point to if they try and give him more work, and so brock has a bunch of dark ghosts in his backyard Also brock finding a megastone for sableye before any of his elites just amuses me more than anything Viva my dude if you are reading these comments im actually wondering your take on this? Because the main way to change up his style is to learn new pokemon and their needs. Most he teaches them how to brute force it, and having him be a bit more tricky sounds awesome Sableye- dark, fits the theme, and potential of granny aggy visiting and training her grandchildrenin how to make their elder brothers hair grey Shuckle, specifically in doubles Magcargo Corsola (these two he has but hasnt focused on. Would change up how he sees these types but not as “fun”) Other option is training partners. That one switch style guy and karen teaching him how to be tricky would be awesome!

Sableye is the *perfect* addition for Brock right now. It's rock adjacent with its diet and environment, but has a very solid base in dark typing (really, I always thought of the ghost typing add-on as something Niantic did because they have an aversion to mono-typing these days). Problem with Sableye is region... it's a Hoenn pokemon and Brock can't really leave Kanto (much less Indigo!) right now. Maybe get it from a trade?

Empty Shelf

Non-damaging moves would be Paper in this instance. His Pokemon move sets and tactics are heavily geared towards damage-dealing moves, and he rarely uses the ones his team does learn. I'm struggling to remember Titan's full moveset, but he's been confirmed to know at least one set-up move, Rock Polish, which we've never seen him use in any battle. Additionally, while Titan is a strong close-quarters combatant, he does know a few ranged attacks which Brock seems downright reluctant to use. It's frustrating to see the same tactics being used dozens if not hundreds of chapters after Brock himself has acknowledged that he needs to change things up.

Donald Bagwell

I see a lot of cookie cutter comments, i kinda agree and am just waiting for agatha to come down on him and show him how to actually fight like a dark type. Maybe have brock get a murkrow or a different fire puppy that is better at things like manipulation and similar to learn to not be so linear? The closest mon brock has to dark type fighter style is freaking Shin! Momentum, movement, control and most of that comes in speed control Maybe having to work with a dark type, especially one that works entirely different than he is used to like sableye (i feel like i spelled it wrong and not caring) would help him understand WHAT he needs to change up in his style? Link and Shin are the closest reference he has but both are still straight forward. The problem comes from what they will do from there?

Donald Bagwell

When vasquez went to smash his face? Personally i want a vasquez, erika, and brock chapter with the voltorbs

Donald Bagwell

In more seriousness i see the Ace circuit using this as a way to draw sponsors, i put this in an earlier comment but i can fully see beating brocks elite challenge, or sabrinas if she has one, as one of the biggest draws for sponsors available. The number one in the league, the man who drew a champion, you want to be a sponsored ace trainer? Prove it. Beat a random pokemon from the man. Show us you have what it takes to hit that level

Donald Bagwell

Probably for the best we use “currently not in ace rankings, won a circuit or certain level” because it wont really do them any good. Ace trainers are able to fight at Ace level alread. “HEY GUYS! I just won a bejeweled boulder badge!” “Timmy arent you rank 30 in the league?” “Yeah and?” *smiles in idiot* “And how many pokemon did it take you to beat…?” “Bertha! And 4!” “Timmy are you in the right line of work? Because if so get back to training, it took 4 pokemon to beat bertha and youve been an ace for 10 years no!”

Donald Bagwell

It is a something we spend hours on, all hail the toddler

Donald Bagwell

Im more wondering if there is any duel types? Mostly for flannery being a possible fighting (can see it) or roxane being steel from Steelix, Agron, and her storter

Donald Bagwell

Single greatest way to become champion, nose goes!

Thomas Keller

Mind if I ask what Paper is in this instant? It's not like Brock has switches available with this Challenge, and Titan is pretty optimized as a Melee Monster. What could have Brock and Titan done differently in your opinion?

Empty Shelf

This story continues to be consistently entertaining... except for the battles. So much set up and characterization to sell this as a hard-fought fight, and it's still let down by Brock's lame strategies. It's like the guy plays Rock-Paper-Scissors by going Rock 90% of the time, Scissors 10%, and never chooses Paper; the only reason he consistently wins is because his Rocks are just that strong. It's well-polished and well-executed, but it's the same thing over and over again, long after it stopped making sense.

Eren Jaeger

Great chapter, and I know this is off topic but I was rereading some of this story and god I miss surge. Although I would say the interaction I’m hoping for most is with Brock and his mom, I still really Hope we get some more interactions with surge and his daughter in the future

Jericho Rising

Surprised the chapter consisted only of the later half of the fight but not disappointed because of how well it concluded as well as the byplays involved. Another great chapter.

Jericho Rising

Less chance to k.o objectively to use hyper beam or Giga impact over aerial ace here I'm pretty sure. Also Less safe and more energy intensive since medi could just detect

Crimson wolf

Quick question:Will Brock need the tyranitarite or will the bond phenomenon make a Brock tyranitar first?

Viva01

yes you did! Muahahahaha!

Kevin Lee

Im still hoping for a stoneless mega evolution if it ever becomes a thing

Lance: I can't keep being Champion. It's too stressful!! Indigo: But the winner of the tournament isn't on your level? I don't think you can just... walk away and quit??? Lance: Watch me. *walks off to go lead his international police group full time* Indigo: *Pikachu shocked face* Indigo: Well. I guess the Elite 4 can fight it- Agatha: Retired effective immediately! Lorelei: If you try and make me, I'll quit being a professional trainer to be a teacher full time. Koga: *not there to answer because ~Ninja~* Brawly: I guess I can give it a go? Indigo: ... on second thought, how about we ask Brock and Sabrina? Brock: Sabrina would be a great-*looks at Sabrina* Sabrina: *finger on nose as she stares Brock directly in the eyes* Nose Goes. Brock: ... Indigo: ... Brock: I regret ever teaching you that. Indigo: We have no idea what just happened but yay! New Champion!

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

*Empress walking around Crusher exhibit at the museum and muttering to herself* "Why is that headpiece being displayed as a short skirt for a child? Who said this blanket was a formal rug? Arceus please tell me they didn't label that toddler toilet as an implement for rituals..."

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

I think it's a little bit of an honor system? For example, let's say Lance only ever did the Johto circuit. He's champion, but he's also never done the Kanto circuit. So if he wanted to, he could *technically* face a Kanto Gym Leader at First Badge level as that is where he is at in the Kanto Circit. Then again, I think Indigo and Hoenn League use tech to track a trainers actual level with far more accuracy then they probably did back when Brock first started out. So maybe these days he only offers it to people at a certain level? Like, 8 badges but never won a league championship?

Imef

I think he knows Hyper Beam too...? His mother is well-known to have a strong one. Would've been a neat final effort finisher instead of spamming aerial ace another time.

Jordan Lopez

I really really can't wait for the day Brock becomes champion. I pray viva01 not only has that happen but we get to actually read millions of words worth of the time during his reign.

Jason Robbyns

That was amazing! And to take on all those Pokémon with a super effective type weakness? And Brawly was never a pushover, it's an amazing accomplishment!

nugitoBambino

Great fight, and another excellent use of a loss from a narrative perspective! Having Titan stand down to avoid injury or death risks and Brock keeping the true purpose of these matches at the forefront of his mind shows a level of wisdom and maturity I love to see in a reincarnation fic. Thanks for the chapter!

Petrox

Is there a limit on who can take up the challenge? I think Ace trainers could easily gain that

nugitoBambino

I believe Brock was trying to say in the last chapter that Titan's ability is actually 'sand stream' just that the abilities work differently than just some automatic move summoning sand, by him actually breaking up the field and then finding it easy to create a sandstorm with his ability from that. Although I wouldn't mind if sandstorm was more magical and less environmental, since 'sunny day' gets to just make a literal ball of solar energy whenever lol

Quincy

Another one for 'its ok for Brock to lose'. He's just got to be preforming well and his opponent must deserve it. Also, wonder what Empress and her children would make of the Crusher exhibit at the museum.

SailorOfHouseThunderBird

I hope that Brock will actually give his fellow power ranger a lesson on aura after this. Or maybe a group lesson if and after Flannery and Roxie challenge for the bejeweled badge. Aj and Missy are probably ready for a primer lesson on aura too by now.

Matt H

It was a good chapter and an enjoyable fight! I'll say, though, that there's a bit of whiplash to go from Agatha taking down Titan with just a single Pokemon to it taking the entire team of a future Gym Leader whose type specialty is quadruply effective against Titan to manage the same feat. Hopefully Brock can teach his team Taunt soon otherwise he might need to start giving out a lot more Bejeweled Bolder Badges. Something interesting I realized after finishing this fight is there's a disconnect for me between how many moves it feels like Titan knows vs how many he actually knows. At times I've had the thought that Titan feels somewhat limited in his movepool, but in this fight alone he used: Stealth Rock, Stone Edge, Mud Slap, Dig, Earthquake, Surf, Aerial Ace, Giga Impact, Protect, and, I think, Sandstorm. And then from previous fights he's also used Fissure, Dark Pulse, and either Bite or Crunch. Objectively, he has an utterly massive movepool so it's strange that it sometimes feels like he doesn't, but maybe that's just a sign of you writing fairly seamless fights that flow and aren't just alternating calls of moves?

AlecG

At this level, death or permanent injury must be a real risk. I hope there are protocols in place to prevent that.

TorrhenWintry

Using the same line on titan as you did on dragonite when Lance lost to Brock, ie "he'd keep going as long as they asked" really makes a hint at both Vrocks potential to be a champion and Brawly's future successes as a trainer/gym leader

Qweku_v

I loved this chapter. Excellent work. It ended on a great note. 🔥🔥🔥

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

I liked how the fight ended. With Titan being all "I could keep going if you need me to" and Brock responding "I know, but we don't need to today" It has a kind of poetry to it. Brock didn't hand Brawly the win by having Titan stand down. Titan was really at his limit and going past it might have done some permanent damage (I think). Brock having Titan stand down here is a "this is where we stop when lives aren't on the line" statement.

Maks

Damn this was a good fight. A very satisfying loss as well. Couldn’t think of anyone better to win the badge. Looking forward to next week.

BlackRazaras

Thanks for the chapter

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

Edit: Instead of a lunging out of the ground I had Titna grasp the very earth above him and buck. 'Titna' should be 'Titan'

Donald Bagwell

I think having this be the first bejeweled badge given is amazing. Also lets face it, everyone will agree to brawley being a gym leader on merit alone. Man is probably adopted by pewter as well. I can see people following his career and say they adopted him and hoen can have him back when they realize he should be a gym leader there. My question is, how will the ace circuit take this level of insanity?

ElJako98

I just lost the game
