Because you need to train those moves. That talk about accuracy and drawbacks was already talked in the story as been how young trainers see those moves because they have no mastery over it. At Ace level with continuos training you can lower drawbacks and power up side effects and or accuracy. If you have some talent with aura even if you can't actively use it you can more easily cause moves to alter their usual effects slightly with enough training, Kaede is such an Example but also Will (while he did chear with Mewtwo he was able to alter some of his moves with his own training thanks to his meager control over psychic aura). Also I woul like to remember you that while Rest is in fact strong it does sap a LOT of energy from the pokemon that is why even if it heals injuries it drains energy making most pokemons still lose after a few moves because they lose the energy to keep fighting. I agree Baton pass is dumb, but I think is more Brock not being fast enough with orders. Now that he can speak in his pokemons mind I fully expect him to tell them to charge up moves while a pokemon is switched out for baton pass in order to hit them when they enter the field. Anyway I think he is training a Crobat to counter this, because that pokemon is one of the few that learns Mean Look, he could also have Sudowoodo to learn Block but I remember him saying that it didn't have the power to be elite level so maybe it's a particularly weak Sudowoodo that he trained to the extreme of what it was capable of but can't go higher of doesn't have the determination to train harder. He could now start to use moves like Relicanth's whirlpool or Cradilly's wrap to deny fleeing. It's also possible for his Crobat to learn Whirlwind as a Golbat, to switch out boosted pokemons, on the same note Tyranitar, Steelix, Ryperior, Garchomp have access to dragon tail. Also I fully expect him to have in the future some pokemon with Arena trap like Flygon as we had a bit of foreshadowing on my opinion with all the talk Lance had about creating a Flygon colony for his own pokemon.

He didn't develop his Dark aura beyond passively accumulating it. So he can't use it much to reinforce attacks. At the same time with Titan they focused on heavy hitting moves and ground and rock coverages, Titan also learned skme new moves on the Ace tournament but his dark moves are still left unexplored. To be fair there is an hard cap on moves, even if it's not 6 moves it is around 10 to 12 moves for elite level pokemons and most dark moves are around deception which is not Titan's fighting style. Also Crunch is physical and I think Brock wants a long range coverage with Stone edge being slow and Titan already having Earthquake and Giga Impact for physical attacks. Payback is telegraphed in theis universe if I remember correctly the pokemon acts similarly as if he was building energy so you can tell. I would personally see as useful Lash out, Foul Play and knock off. Knock off is great against gimmick sets. Lash out is great against pokemons like will's Jynx that keep lowering stats. Foul Play would have been great against Aeiglash as the form change from what I can remember in this story counts more as a stat boost for effects.

Love the indication of further skill developments in aura and beyond!

Thanks for the chapter

Could we perhaps get a list of the actual moves that Titan has? Because to me that Aegislash fight was a train wreck. He 'spams' 1 move -which is a special move- over and over; with a physical power house. Why not use something like crunch, or payback? And he doesn't have or didn't use any utility skills for Titans Dark typing either. Like fx. taunt, torment, or snarl. Torment alone would've completely shut down Agatha's entire strategy, and taunt would've done even better. He didn't even act on his observation that Aegislash lacked finesse and speed, by further lowering it with moves like rock tomb. It honestly read like Brock's skill level -and titans by association- was artificially lowered so he could have a frustrating and 'tough' fight, and then 'learn' something from it. Even though we just saw some chapters ago, him learning this exact same lesson already? Sorry i was not a big fan of this chapter unfortunately :/ Edit: i also agree with Empty Shelf about the risk vs reward from some of the strategies and move synergies we have seen.

I'm curious how Destiny Bond works, how does it scale if used by a lv10 vs lv60 pokemon, if there are ways to break the connection after it is formed, and how does it impact the mega-evolution connection

You think Agatha wouldn't learn esoteric secrets of the world NOT to mess with oak?

Viva01

Artificially that's the case at the moment with Brock being unable to do so with this being an Exhibition match. Like with Lance they can't trade out or change pokemon until their pokemon is KO'd.

I could care less about the game's mechanics, what matters is the story. And in this story, powerful moves should have significant downsides. They should be less accurate, or less reliable, or slower, or vulnerable, or have some other kind of trade-off; otherwise, why bother with anything else? Even if the world isn't a game, the mechanics should still be balanced in some way, especially when the characters in the story are essentially playing a game with rules. Using Sleep Talk to cover Rest's weakness should not be a safe play, especially with each pokemon having 8+ moves instead of the usual 4. It should be an unpredictable, high-risk, high reward maneuver that fails or breaks-even at least as often as it succeeds. If the coin always lands on heads, it becomes an optimal strategy with no counterplay...which is boring.

Frankly, it's also unsatisfying if a story strictly adheres to game mechanics. What's the point of changing the medium by which a story is told if you don't make use of different boundaries and rules? Imagine how anti-climatic it would be to just have a Pokemon rest repeatedly without taking any counter-action. Obviously trainers would counteract drawbacks irl.

Empty Shelf

I will say, it's really hard to gauge these fights sometimes. Arbok is a particularly frail pokemon, but this one seems to just keep on tanking high-power hits head-on from Gawain. Aegislash in Sword form, with it's stats switched back to normal, is even more frail, yet it took three super-effective full power Dark Pulses from Titan to put it down. I recognize that Agatha is Elite Level, and so boss-fight rules apply, but it's very unsatisfying when Agatha's being praised for her clever tactics, and the only reason they work is her Pokemon are not going down when they should. On a broader note, I'm getting kind of tired of Rest. I think all of one time it wasn't pulled off without a hitch, where every other time they do the sleep-flying thing flawlessly dodge, or they Sleep-Talk the perfect move at the perfect time. So many strategies recently rely on someone being able ignore or handwaved away the cost of a move or mechanic, or always win the metaphorical coin-flip, and it comes across as less clever and more frustrating. The trade-off inherent to high-risk moves like Rest or Baton Pass is that it gives the opponent a chance to Punish, but no one ever gets the chance.

We about to see a mega gengar?

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

Anyone else think Brock comes across a little... arrogant? He's so sure he can win. That he know Agatha and her methods. That he is on even footing. But, well, Agatha is clearly controlling the match from where I'm sitting. She's controlling the pacing, isn't surprised at his pokemon release order, and seems to have an answer for every attack. Right now, I think the biggest lesson Brock is going to learn from this match is twofold: 1) Just like Lance, Brock cannot rest on his laurels. 2) To quote Star Wars: "There is always a bigger fish"

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

You know how the War had mega pokemon? What if Agatha was one of the trainers who had a mega in the war?? Then she would have had a mega for literal decades... But it's doubtful. Mostly because Oak would definitely have known and thus not been as obsessed over Sabrina and Brock's mega evolutions.

Matt H

Interesting. My initial thought when Aegislash was more resilient than expected was that it was actually a Zoroark. The Hisuian form would would be more in line with Agatha's type, but the regular form would allow it to take Dark type moves better.

Petrox

Mega Gengar coming? Or not worthy enough to reveal that trump card?

Donald Bagwell

Hell yes! Please tell me shadow tag on a certain bit of poison?
