Mad Max

I never knew about that one until your comment. Thanks for recommending a great story.

Could be that Brock is just uses/used to Gamer Terminology to relate to Pokémon Traning/Battling.

Exactly. This story seems to be in a bit of an awkward position: are we in a world where base stats, levels, etc. are a thing? Or are we in a world where bonds and trying hard allow for a Pikachu to beat an Onix using Electric attacks? I think the answer, thus far, is that we're somewhere in the middle. And this puts mega evolutions in an awkward state: is a mega evolved Pokemon powerful because anyone who can do it must have a deep bond with their Pokemon, or is the Pokemon inherently powerful by nature of mega evolving? Kaede's battle vs Brock seems to indicate that a deep bond can enable a Pokemon (Furret) to match or even surpass their "canonical" superiors. On the other hand, Titan's victory over Mega-Houndoom seems to be a case of the tyranny of base stats and levels. I can see why Viva wouldn't want to go hard to either side for literary freedom, but staying in the middle leads to situations where it feels like the outcome of a given match depends on what the plot requires rather than any sort of internal consistency in the story. As readers we're left in the position of just having to accept any outcome because it can be justified as needed.

Ah I think if I'm reading this right is that the power scaling isn't consistent or just hard to make sense of When put like that I can get where you're coming from I honesty got no answer there Is ferret a stronger pokemon because he's use to being the under dog in fight and perhaps he just knows how to buckle down in fights he should have more trouble with? Or the stats brock use as a reference are simply hogwash? You could say ferret has reach his peak power while hound doom and emperress are still reaching theirs and that could even the tide so to speak between them I'm reaching here Kaede placement in the story has muddled things up in terms of the power hierarchy Her strats were very good but perhaps in a setting where kaede can't circumvent the rules to bleed out an edge where she's forced to fight more straightforward ferret would lose much more handily? Hmm it's hard thing to grasp for me the more I think about it But I can take this as meaning that strategies at this level can really mold a trainers power despite them being weaker in straightforward fights It's the way these fights are done that to me shape the looks of a fight But still a ferret used in battle the whole time mentally worn despite being at full health should have more trouble keeping up with a fresh faced rockzilla That kaede fight is iffy at the end there Man you threw something I haven't really thought about but it does make things confusing

It's hard to put my finger on exactly what my problem with this tournament is, but I suppose my "issue" stems from this quote: "She’d gone into this hoping to get the edge with her mega evolution, but the truth of the matter was, on stats alone, her Houndoom had merely matched my Tyranitar." If this world is even semi-closely related to the games I'm having a hard time understanding a world where a Furret performs *significantly* better against two, functionally, alpha Tyranitar in the same battle than the Mega-Houndoom Ace of a future Elite Four member. Unless Houndoom's actions were all part of a much greater plan I think Kaede is far more deserving of an Elite Four position than Karen is. And that doesn't even take into account that Karen is currently battling with a bunch of benefits from Aura while Kaede wasn't. If anything, Kaede's "ceiling" if she can get a handle on Aura seems significantly higher than Karen at the moment.

Blame the story “The most evil trainer” on spacebattles

Wayne

Brock is handling Karen pretty well even if it's unfortunate that Hypnotoad fell, hopefully he can continue his lead and win the Championship.

Viva01

hohoho, aren't we clever???

Boobby hill

To be fair to Karen Kaede strat was very reliant on buffing furret and basically making him the star of the show during the battle plus while Karen's strat is more fun to see Kaede's strat is much more effective against brock and honesty a good portion of trainers mostly reliant on who can swing hits harder , more accurate, faster on a individual to individual bouts Kaede team definitely worked more like an actual team instead of a group of strong guys in one place Which imo definitely gave Kaede the edge and gives her a more effective showing Karen mega evolved hound doom is no way an effective strat against titan but Karen's goal seems to be to weaken everyone enough to let houndoom sweep the remnants but I could be wrong

Donald Bagwell

Honestly it feels like old friends doing fun instead of all the heavy stuff from before

Matt H

Compared to how the rest of her team has been fighting her mega evolution with Houndoom feels a little underwhelming. Not that I want to go restart old discussions, but Samurai Furret seems to be significantly stronger/more effective than Karen's Ace which seems a bit... odd.

Boobby hill

Hahaha now this is a good one Karen really showing off her chops for a potential e4 member It certainly matches with her personality to be have strong pokemon with a mixture of tricks to shorten the gap of strength between her and brocks pokemon These two throwing each other games off with each bout is very pleasant to see It's reminding me of the lance fight except with dark types and crabs instead of a goofy ass dragon multiplied by 3 Good show so far

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

Karen keeps knocking Brock off his game (which I love to see! Very on brand of her!). And while Brock has made good recoveries, he still isn't "winning". Personally, I'm viewing this as more of a tie right now.

TideCaller

Why do I feel in my spirit that we’re about to get Brock-Tyranitar bond evolution, crossing my fingers.

oakes

I think we saw them buffing during switch outs prevoliously.

philip

I thought that Pokemon couldn't get a move during the one minute in between the switch out. Seeing gemgar get his toxic out during brock switch out bothers me XD

Ben Lockwood

Does tide have a combination move for sing and perish song?

BlackRazaras

Thanks for the chapter
