Hi Dogen, do you have a resource for learning the pitch accent patterns for other conjugations (-sugiru, -rou, and so on)?

Dogen

Hi, Kaylee. These suffixes are something I haven't properly researched yet, so unfortunately I can't really comment. This could be something I could cover in the future, or something to discuss with a native speaker who is knowledgeable about pitch accent.

Thanks for being a Patron, and it'll be great to have you back in the future. To borrow from the conversation Matt and I had in the Long Term Japanese Study Plan video (https://www.patreon.com/posts/long-term-road-38355581), it helps to be far enough in your studies of Japanese to have knowledge to work with when you study pitch-accent, but you don't want to be so far along that you develop bad habits that you have to unlearn. Here's to your future return, and good luck with your studies!

Hello, I'm looking for information on the whether the newer pronunciations are acceptable in verb compounds with 〜づらく、〜にくく、〜やすく。 For example, I feel like I sometimes hear 「分かりづらく」 with downstep on 「ら」(consistent with the "newer pronunciation")、but it seems like 分かりやすく always has the downstep on や (consistent with the "traditional pronunciation")。

I have to say goodbye for now 🥲 Between wanikani and learning grammar, there is little time for pitch accent for now. I need to focus more on reading but I will be back once I get to a decent level of understanding spoken and written Japanese. I think your course on pitch accent will be more useful to me once I reach an “advanced” beginner level Lol. Your course is amazing! Can’t wait to be back :)

Hi Charlie! Thanks for this. Yes, it did get cut off a bit, unfortunately—the mixer I normally use for audio broke just before filming this video, so I rushed out and got a new one, but in my rush to get this video out in time it seems I didn't dial in just the right settings, so there are small bits in which the audio for my recordings is less than perfect, and I apologize for that (I've since replaced the original mixer with a much better one, so this shouldn't happen again). That said, all of the native recordings should be perfect—please use the native recordings for listen and shadowing, rather than mine, and you should be fine. Thanks for the understanding, and best of luck with your future studies!

Hey Dogen, I noticed at 0:23 that there's a clip in the audio when you say おもしろい The い just gets cut off.
