Patreon Exclusive - Ranking Disney's First LGBT Characters (Featuring Lady Emily and Big Joel!)

I was going to do this one on my own, but remembering that my cowriter Emily was coming to visit me this month, I thought it might be fun to film them together. As said in the video, this was originally an hour and a half of us talking about LGBT characters and representation. Then all our files got deleted because iMovie is terrible (this is why I don't use it anymore for actual videos!) So, we decided to do something else hopefully fun with it, and rank every "first gay Disney character ever" we could think of, and include some interspersed thoughts about LGBT representation in media. This was one of the two winning poll results for last month- stay tuned for the other one, also featuring Emily, in the coming days! For $10+ patrons, I'll also put out a suggestion post shortly for patron-exclusive videos Emily and I can do together. Hope you enjoy!

Loved this, but also find it kind of bonkers that these discussions don't include The Owl House (which is no shade to you two! I'm more side-eyeing the online Discourse that your conversation talks about). It's a Disney show that's hands-down the best Gay Content (the protagonist is openly bi and romances another girl! the mentor has a love interest who uses they/them! both of these are extremely prominent plot/character details that cannot be cut and that's not even the end of it!), but also.... Disney is pulling the plug on it early because, according to an exec, it's not getting the kind of audience they want. So it's their best representation that I'm aware of, but also some of the company's most homophobic behavior??? Also, the show is great and I love it, so it's personally homophobic against me that they would do this. Anyway, now that's out of my system, great video! I love starting my weekend with a nice disney roast, and you guys are so funny and insightful, it was really cool seeing you bounce off each other. Thank you for all the work you do!
