I'm thrilled for you to start POI! In my top 3 series of all time. If you didn't know... it's by Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan's brother. They worked together on all of Christopher's movies. It aired on CBS... so it's a very episodic network show. But also more. No one better spoil you! Most fans tell new watchers to be patient during S1. I always say: the greatest trick Jonathan Nolan played... was convincing CBS that POI was just another procedural. But he definitely had to play the long game.
