The exploding truck looks so real because it is, it's a one- take with no major cgi. There's an interview talking about how they only had one attempt, and it would be ruined if the actors flinched as it exploded. They used a lens that makes them seem much much closer to the explosion than they were, but the explosion was real and filmed with the actors. So was the burning bathrobe for that matter.
