Bridget
I’m not a mastermind.
Opportunistic, however? Absolutely. With some devious tendencies as well.
The truth was, I had put Meredith out of my mind. Our little rivalry was amusing back when we were in high school, but we were going to different universities after graduation. It was one thing to compete over better grades and who scored more points in competitions throughout our teenage years. Though we ended up attending sister schools with comparable programs for undergrad, I wasn’t about to compare myself to a girl who I didn’t see on a regular basis. I could probably somehow acquire her grades if I made the effort; it just made way more sense to focus on the peers in my program, for the sake of getting noticed by professors and advancing both my education and opening future doors for myself.
That is, until I heard Meredith’s name again.
It was in passing, and not really meant for me. I was sucking up to one of my teachers and attending office hours for something that we had barely scratched the surface of in class, rather than coming in for help grasping one of the current sections we were focusing on. Somewhere down the hall, a professor who was visiting from across the river mentioned a ‘Meredith’ in terms of one of his promising first-years. There was no doubt in my mind that he was talking about the same girl I knew.
Was my name being thrown around at the other school? If not, that’s what I wanted. For academics to have heard of me before I later introduced myself. And if I ended up out-shining Meredith in the process? Well, that was just the cherry on top.
I still didn’t really consider it a rivalry any more; I was just naturally competitive. Being reminded of the girl’s existence was enough to spark something in me. Doubling and re-doubling my efforts to be the best, while charming my professors without being obvious about it, I made absolutely sure that I was the star of my program by the end of my first year.
It still wasn’t really about Meredith. If anything, I thought about her less and less along the way. Between out-shining my classmates and taking in all the university experiences as an outgoing nineteen year old, I had more important things to give my attention to than a girl I used to compete against.
And then, halfway through my sophomore year, Annabelle called.
She had clearly done her research. Like, really done her research. For starters, Annabelle knew that I was the most notable girl in my year for mathematics. A high school senior wouldn’t have heard my name the way I was hoping professors would, which meant she–or, more likely, her parents–had the connections to get that kind of information. Apparently she was interested in a tutor my age because everything from my first and second year of university would be more fresh in my head than someone older. That, and she would get along better with a college student than some adult.
Annabelle proceeded to bring up Meredith, which demonstrated a more teenage level of research. She had done a rather deep dive into our social media accounts. Though there was no direct evidence out there of my old rivalry with Meredith, Annabelle had managed to figure out that there was some bad blood just from a series of pictures and vague posts over the years. In another light, it might have seemed like stalking, but Annabelle was just so direct and professional about the way she referenced everything.
After going through the broad strokes of what she had figured out thus far, Annabelle asked if I would be interested in a tutoring job with crazy good pay, with the added benefit of screwing with Meredith.
Obviously, I said yes. It’s not like I was going out of my way to rekindle my rivalry with the girl. It was just a beautiful perk of a job I would have taken just for the money.
Annabelle and I met for brunch at her place, and figured out in a matter of minutes that we were birds of a feather. Both dominant-leaning girls, both lesbians, and both clever for our ages. Not that either of us said those things out loud. But when you know, you know. I don’t really advertise my sexuality, though I’m plenty capable of flirting with my eyes and reading other girls who know how to do the same.
Naturally, Annabelle and I ended up fucking within the first hour of meeting each other face to face.
A great start to a mutually beneficial relationship. Neither of us were really into the whole monogamy thing, which meant that we would always have something to do when we needed a mental break from mathematics. I really didn’t give a shit that Annabelle hadn’t graduated yet. We were basically the same age, and she was legal.
And all that was on top of the actual reason for the redhead reaching out in the first place. According to her, I was going to get to see my former rival in quite the amusing light. The best part? She didn’t really need me to make it happen. I was just going to have the pleasure of being along for the ride. My presence alone would be plenty, as witnessing Meredith’s submissive role would make things more interesting for everyone involved.
There was no official plan, or schedule for that matter. Annabelle just texted me and told me to come over if I was free. I was just chilling in my dorm room working on some homework, so I was more than game to ditch that for the sake of whatever the scheming girl had in store for me.
She kept me in suspense for a few minutes. We made out in the foyer to kick things off, and then she took my hand and walked me up to her private suite. I assumed this was just a booty call, as we hadn’t yet established how her tutoring with Meredith would transition into fully giving the job to me.
Turns out, what was waiting for me in Annabelle’s bedroom was so much better than casual sex.
