I saw it the way "if you ask them to peel it and they peel it they love you, if not - they don't" because if someone ask me for an orange I'll bring them unpeeled one, because I don't know if they are okay with someone else peel an orange for them (they may saw it unhygienic, for example) but if they ask me to peel it I would do it with no questions asked :D

Ooh this kinda reminds me of the “orange peel theory” where you ask someone you love for an orange. If they hand it to you peeled, it means theyre thoughtful and caring. If they bring you an orange unpeeled, it could be seen as they are less likely to prioritize their partner
