Thank you for taking my mind of politics, current affairs, and the State of the World! As a geeky girl I grew up reading Tarzan and the Barsoom novels, wishing for more adventure in my life. Now I live in Interesting Times - jokes on me!

Thank you (as always) for such a thoughtful and well-researched essay. I have been struggling to put to words why Dune didnβt feel like it really got it, despite the intent I could see and read about from the creators. In fact, I just had an argument with brother on Sunday about the changes to Chani. How I thought they were much needed but he didnβt because heβs a βbook puristβ. I also really appreciate you bringing up Tarzan and John Carter and Kings Solomonβs Mines. I was raised on those stories and even though I know now how deeply racist and problematic they are, I also know because they were ingrained into my childhood so deeply I will probably always have work to do to deconstruct their impact on me. As a (very) early career writer, it is essays and perspectives like this I need to make me stop and think and interrogate my own reasons behind characters and choices. So! All that to say, I truly appreciate the work you are doing and I hope to be able to continue to support it for a long time!
