🕑 Added 2023-04-28 22:11:16 +0000 UTCYes, I know it is cliche now that people of my generation have retroactively tried to turn the prequels into art, and while I wouldn't go that far—with the absolute mess that was the handling of the structure of the sequel series we at least get a W for being able to at least string together a cohesive story for three installments. Not to mention Padmé is tragically one of the most well-developed women in the Star Wars main canon—no, I will not be taking questions at this time. And for all the issues with Hayden Hayden Christensen's performance as Anakin in the films, the character struggle of Anakin and his arc from a young boy to Darth Daddy Vader is interesting. To me, the tragedy of Anakin can be seen in my favorite line from The Phantom Menace: “I’m a person, and my name is Anakin.”

Just revisiting this vid since watching the Ahsoka series. SPOILERS AHEAD! I was so disappointed seeing Luke perpetuate the same mistakes with attachments with Grogu. Luke had an opportunity to reimagine the jedi. Mara Jade wouldn't have let that happen, haha. Anyway, this video is still incredibly poignant. Thank you Princess :) love your stuff.

Great video, and I'm glad how you pointed out how toxic the institution of the Jedi was because it forbade members from forming emotional attachments. Padme is a wonderful character, and I agree Anakin should have been allowed to stay with his Mum and friends on Tattoine. The Jedi should have attempted to free the slaves instead of letting them stay enslaved.

Thing I always found the most fascinating about Phantom Menace when it came out is EVERYBODY loved it. I thought it was okay. It took me about the first hour of the movie to even get on its wavelength, so when people asked me what I thought, I would answer that it was okay. This scandalized every single person who asked me. They wanted to know why I did not LOVE the movie, and I watched something interesting happen over the course of about a year to a year-and-a-half. People stopped LOVING the movie. They started HATING it, and yet, the whole time, I still thought it was okay. I still think it's okay. It's a descent movie with interesting ideas and an absolute refusal to bend to the action-movie storytelling conventions of 1999. Oh also, I saw the whole midichlorian thing as the movie telegraphing that the Jedi were on the decline. These weren't good Jedi at the height of their power. These were bad Jedi. These were Jedi headed for a fall, and Yoda was the evil rot at the heart of it all. No seriously, I've been 100% Evil Yoda since Phantom Menace came out. That whole "fear leads to anger, etc, etc" thing is Yoda showing he's an evil cult leader keeping his followers in line through fear and intimidation. Don't WANT or else the DARK SIDE will FOREVER dominate your destiny and we'll hunt you down and kill you without a giving you a second to explain yourself.

Yeah Anakin got fucked over. On another note: that’s why I love Ahsoka, she’s neither a Jedi nor Sith. She got out of that toxic institution and became something more nuanced and stronger imo
