One Villainous Scene - Demona Is Alone
🕑 Added 2021-08-04 22:17:24 +0000 UTCOf all the female villains in Western media, the one who stands out to me is Demona from the Disney series Gargoyles. Tragic, vengeful, and powerful her rage has stuck with me since childhood.
I got asked to do this video and so it was a small filler video before True Crime comes next week. It's a big one.

I just started watching gargoyles when I saw it pop up on Disney, still very much holds up. Once I’ve gotten further in the first season I want to circle back to this!

I def feel like I started prewriting my FATWS feels with this Demona video

Thinking of Karli from Falcon and the Winter Soldier and how the writers decided to make her a murderer rather than meaningfully engage with her points.

Thanks for this perspective, I loved Gargoyles as a kid. Demona was always a fav.

First I'll just say - much love for Gargoyles. In a lot of these "fantasy counterpart racism/prejudice" plots I call to mind an AI character I played once when I was young, who at one point gave the line, "I'm not a brave like [the villains of the story]. I've been complicit in my own slavery for years." Although I don't see it in all fantastical racism stories, I definitely see the "good guys" as often being complicit in their own oppression (and I shamelessly quote myself routinely lol) and the "bad guys" as being caricaturized versions of take-no-crap pride and freedom groups, essentially presenting the dominant party's view of them as terrorists and whatever other buzzwords of evil are popular that week..

Gargoyles is fantastic, and Demona has long been one of my favorite antagonist characters. Though all the Gargoyles antagonists are fun in their own way, Demona was frightening and tragic all at once.
