agreed! it was very difficult to watch but I finished it! Ava is not a very compelling character, Beatrice was my absolute favorite, had a crush on her. Super powerful, intelligent and compassionate. Amazing performance too. I really stayed for the sisters, not for Ava or JC!

Gave up after 2-3 eps (treatment of Crusades as just 'fighting the ~barbarians~' (at this early date of mid-11c. the Almoravids and Almohades were not coherent groups yet and it was still the taifa period in Spain iirc, though those groups when they did come on the scene were no less intolerant than the christian castillians, in any case pls can we retire term ~barbarians~ forever), also the 'science' vs 'religion' angle is incredibly hackneyed and a specifically and incredibly Christian hangup that they do not even try to make more interesting, it's just a given, so just off-putting again), but I'm surprised the pacing was so bad after this/they don't wrap up the ’exploring’ stuff and Ava ends up looking unsympathetic and entitled given serial awful treatment early on. Ah well. Can't say I'm too motivated to finish it after watching this, esp if they're gonna take forever to start kicking ass and taking names
