The door to his left opened and team APRN. Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren were expected, but Cinder was there too for the first time in days. His eyes widened and he opened his mouth to say something before thinking better of it. She would've preferred if he asked when they were alone, he was sure. Their eyes met and she smiled at him, though there was some strain in the gesture. He had known her long enough that he could tell.
"Good to see you again, Cinder," he said instead of questioning her.
"Quite. It's been an eventful few days." She chuckled and brushed away the hair covering her right eye.
"I'm starving. Let's go get some grub," Yang cut in, "Oh, and I expect my laundry to be ready by tomorrow, stud."

The look in her eyes made it clear that she would've challenged anyone who tried to claim the spot. Pyrrha's eyes narrowed at her partner, but she said nothing and took the seat next to Cinder.
Ruby sat across from him, smile never leaving her face. He wanted so badly to ask if she'd taken any morning-after pills, but he couldn't exactly bring it up while everyone else was around. That was guaranteed to cause a scene.
He picked at his food slowly and almost jumped when he felt a stockinged foot graze his ankle. Jaune finished his meal as fast as he could and muttered, "Cin, could we talk somewhere private?"
"Of course. We should probably discuss what you need to do for me as a Support Student." She nodded. It wasn't what they had to talk about, but still.
He went back to his room and got a message on his scroll, "Meet me down in Vale in two hours. I'll be at the Bullhead docks," it said. Jaune let out a small breath and smiled. Despite how yesterday ended, going down to Vale felt like a good first step. At the very least it lessened the chances of someone from either team walking in on them both. They needed privacy for this.
Jaune went down early. He had something to do first. He ignored some of the stares he got from passing women and made his way to the closest convenience store. Jaune stuffed his hands into his pockets and tried to put it out of his mind for now. He was getting the chance to hang out with Cinder again, he should've been happy. Despite how odd their situation was - informally arranged marriages tended to do that - Cinder really was his best friend. Then again, she was the only woman he knew outside of the family before Beacon. Despite being his adopted sister, they felt more like close friends than anything. Both of them preferred it that way.
It wasn't much longer before Cinder showed up. He looked her up and down and couldn't stop the wave of nostalgia from hitting him. Said place ended up being a cafe. Cinder paid for a private booth and then closed the door after they made their orders. Jaune sunk into his seat and let out a small sigh. There were so many questions he wanted to ask, but before he got the chance to, Cinder spoke up.
"The family's still worried about you." Jaune winced. There was no judgment or condemnation in her voice, but that didn't much help.
"I left them a letter to explain..."
"Funnily enough, their Auraless son telling them he wanted to be a hero didn't set their mind at ease." Another wince, "Saphron's blaming herself. Wonders if she could've done something. The others understand that it's not her fault, at least." The silent question hung in the air. 'When are you going to tell them', she asked. Jaune didn't answer and the silence lasted long enough for a waitress to come back with their drinks.
Jaune took a sip of the warm coffee and let it calm his nerves. With how hectic the past few days had been, he'd almost forgotten about home. It'd only been a few days - barely a week - since he'd been here, but it felt far longer than that.
"I know I'm putting you in a difficult spot..."
"That's an understatement." She took a sip of her tea, "If and when they find out where you are, they're not going to believe I wasn't aware and complicit."

Their job is to take down Grimm and do missions from the mission board. They don't get involved in politics, but they still have to follow the local rules."

"Well, apparently Amber took that as more of a suggestion." Cinder spat out the woman's name like a curse, "She was...involved in the slave trade."

She was a competent Huntress. Why would they care about some 'nobodies' in a village that's not under their purview?"
Jaune was suddenly reminded of the headmistress' words. She'd choose a single Huntress over a Support Student in a heartbeat.
"I guess she assumed that I'd be the same. I wasn't." "What happened?"

They'll try to make life difficult, but I'm not going to give up being a Huntress because some politicians don't care about anything that happens outside of their precious kingdom.
