As far back as she remembered, Pyrrha had always been a people pleaser. She couldn't help it. She was raised to always think about her actions and disliked seeing people sad even from a young age. She remembered stealing a cookie from some blue-haired boy when she was just four years old and how guilty she felt afterward. From then on, she vowed to always be careful with how she acted.
Being a celebrity had only hammered that in even more. While many others in her position had let the fame get to their heads, Pyrrha always told herself that she had a responsibility to ensure that she didn't step on anyone's toes. All people were equal, and it would've been wrong for her to think she was better than anyone else just because she had some trophies or had her face on a cereal box (of a cereal she didn't particularly like either).
She kept up that same attitude even as she continuously won tournaments. At first, she'd only won small tournaments held in Mistral, but eventually, she'd moved on to events such as the Mistral Regional Tournament. Winning at such a young age against other juniors was eye-catching, but not all too rare. It was when she'd won against a full-blown Huntsman and secured the trophy that she'd been considered exceptional. It was a close fight, but of course, people disregarded that because a teenager had won against seemingly impossible odds. A once-in-a-lifetime prodigy. The Invincible Girl.
And yet she still kept to her mostly passive nature. Part of it was due to the warnings from her agent that any sign of acting out would be latched onto by the public looking for an excuse to put her down, but it was mostly because of the same reason as before. She was taught to be a good person, and good people didn't take advantage of others or assume they were better than them because of their riches or fame.
At times, she'd been tempted to break from this. People had become vultures when her fame had reached its peak. Old friends had turned away from her due to jealousy or resentment and others had tried to use their friendship to gain perks. It hurt, and between that and the paparazzi, she'd been so tempted to lash out more times than she could count. All people saw of her was her image. She wasn't Pyrrha Nikos; she was the Invincible Girl.
Jaune was different. While the rest of Team JNPR and Team RWBY (sans Weiss...) treated her as an equal despite her fame, Jaune was the first to truly accept her. Perhaps it was shallow. Would she have felt the same if it had been Yang or Ruby who talked to her first in the locker room? Perhaps, but she liked to think it was more than just a good first impression. Jaune was kind, understanding, and did his best to be a good leader despite his shortcomings.
Finding out about his transcripts had been a surprise, but perhaps less so looking back on it. His performance in Initiation had been lacking, especially for someone who had gotten past Beacon's rigorous standards. And yet Pyrrha didn't feel anger at having been deceived. All she cared about was that she could help him train, help him prove that he belonged in Beacon, fake transcripts or otherwise.
And he said no. Pride, mostly, but there was shame mixed in there too. She'd seen it all before. Many hopefuls in the tournament circuit acted and felt the same. They trained and struggled only to lose at the end. She'd seen the resentment and anger in their eyes when they realized they just weren't good enough. That they had gambled it all and lost at the apex of their struggle.
In some ways, Jaune was worse than that. At least the ones who resented her had trained for their shot. Jaune hadn't. He had snuck his way into Beacon under false pretenses. Despite that, she couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards him. Perhaps it was hypocritical of her. Would she have been so open-minded if it was someone she wasn't friends with? Someone she didn't have a crush on? Perhaps not.
So she offered to train him. Perhaps it was naive of her, but still, the thought of Jaune being expelled or failing tore her apart. She'd do anything to make sure that didn't happen.
"I don't need your help!" Jaune screamed, looking angrier than she'd ever seen him. She almost stepped back at the ferocity of his shout, "I can...I can do this on my own. I have to. Otherwise, it's all just pointless!"
She'd heard it all before. He wasn't the first prideful Huntsman or tournament hopeful she'd seen. And yet, it felt different coming from him. She felt sad that he was acting this way, but there was another feeling that blossomed in her chest.

Jaune stepped past her, assuming from her silence that the conversation was finished. She grit her teeth and spoke, "Stop." He did, though she wasn't willing to take a chance. With a flick of her hand, her Semblance activated and forcefully turned him around. The urge to apologize rose and she clamped it down. No, not this time, "You think I'm just going to let you walk off after what you said."
"Pyrrha-"
"No." She tugged him forward till they were just a few feet apart. Her heart beat rapidly both in nervousness and a feeling that she couldn't quite place, "Jaune, you cheated your way in." He winced at that, but she kept going, "You can't just say that you'll train on your own. Do you even have a training regiment planned? Or were you just hoping to get something from the dustnet?"
"I...I can do it on my own," he said, though he was far less confident than before.
The bubbling frustration in her gut worsened and she bared her teeth, "What if I tell the headmaster about your transcripts?" His eyes widened in a panic and the same unknown feeling from before returned, "I'd be well within my rights to. My partner cheated his way in, and now he's selfishly refusing to accept any help out of pride. That puts both me and the rest of the team at risk."
"I...you..."
"Or I could help you." Another tug and they were almost nose-to-nose now, "If you would just set your pride aside for one second, you'd realize how lucky you are. Do you think anyone else would do the same in my place?" Perhaps Ruby since she was such a sweet girl, but anyone else? She doubted it. Blake and Yang wouldn't care, Weiss would immediately tell the headmaster, and Ren would understand the danger an untrained leader posed. Nora might've wanted to help, but she wouldn't know about training someone to do so.
"But...I wanted to-"
"Wanted to what? Do it all on your own? You had that chance, Jaune, and you wasted it." He flinched like he'd been struck, "It's too late to train by yourself and hope that you're some kind of miracle prodigy. You're already here at Beacon, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you that your performance hasn't been spectacular. How long before Professor Goodwitch or someone else realizes that your skill doesn't match your transcripts? What will you do then?"
He didn't answer. That was all the confirmation she needed.
"Starting tomorrow, we're going to start training. You won't be able to match the average Beacon student in just a few months, but it's a start, and it'll hopefully keep you from being expelled. Do you understand?"
"But..."
"Do. You. Understand?" Her voice was firm and left no room for argument. All the fight, as feeble as it was, left Jaune's face and he nodded.
"Yes, ma'am..."
There was something in that word that suddenly made her heart race. Pyrrha's face flushed and she suddenly noticed just how close the two of them were. She resisted the apology at the tip of her tongue and took a slow step back, "Good." She smiled, ignoring the red on her cheeks, "Now go and prepare. Training won't be easy and I won't accept any complaints. Try to skip out or make excuses and you know what'll happen." The unspoken threat was clear.
"Right, got it." He winced and nodded again.
"We start at 5 PM sharp. Don't be late."
"I won't."
He turned and walked away on unsteady feet. Pyrrha waited till the door had closed behind him before she released a breath she didn't even know she was holding. The champion pressed her back against the wall and slowly sat on the floor, face red and heart racing. What was this? She pressed a hand against her chest and panted. The training was backbreaking. Literally. She pushed Jaune to his absolute limits. A part of her felt bad for doing it, but even without her recent awakening, this was something she needed to do. Ms. Goodwitch was already suspicious of his performance and eventually, she'd look closer once Jaune kept losing in Combat Class. The next week passed by with more of the same. Backbreaking training followed by what rest Jaune could get before classes started again. Perhaps it was a bit cruel to push him so hard on top of everything else, but it wasn't as if they had much of a choice. They were in the middle of the semester now and a term of classes with nothing but losses would've had his grades failing worse than Blake's idea of a disguise.
