"We don't have that position." Blake sighed, "My mother is the chieftess and I'll inherit her position, but we don't live in the lap of luxury like some people." She gave a pointed glance at Weiss.
"If you're trying to shame me for my pedigree, you'll be disappointed." Weiss sniffed, "I see no reason for false humility. The Schnees are the most powerful family in Atlas and we more than earned that position. My role as heiress was well-chosen."
"Yeah, you were born and you get to inherit because of it." Blake scoffed, "I'm the same, but you don't see me acting like I earned it."
"Well, Rubes and I are from Patch," Yang said, ignoring the growing argument between the heiress and the princess, "It's kinda-sorta Valean, but if you ask anyone else, we're 'fiercely independent'. That pretty much means we shout about how we don't belong to Vale while doing everything with them."
So, Jaune." Ruby beamed, "Why'd you sign up for Beacon? Looking for that special someone, maybe?" She fluttered her eyes at him.
"Ahaha...no, not really." His laugh came out forced and awkward, "I just...I guess I wanted to do something meaningful with my life." Be a hero, he almost said, but he held back. They weren't Cindy. He wasn't sure if he could trust them, three of them already proved that they didn't much care what he thought.
"Tch, what a lofty reason." Weiss clicked her tongue, "'Do something meaningful'? What does that even mean? If we were in Atlas, you would've had your role chosen for you. That's far more sensible."
"Then I guess it's a good thing we're not in Atlas, princess," Jaune snapped back, surprising even himself. Weiss was briefly surprised by the response before she scowled and left with her tray, her food only half-finished.
"Oof. Looks like you made the ice queen mad. I wouldn't wanna be you right now," Yang said without a hint of sympathy.
Jaune cringed and resisted the urge to slam his head on the table.

Right now I'm considering Whitley Schnee and Adam Taurus as POV characters. Whitley is the only son of the highest family in Atlas and yet he's treated as a servant and afterthought by his own family. Meanwhile, Adam is a bitter former slave who fights against the twisted system despite knowing how weak he is because he (and all who follow him) have no Aura. These two could provide some decent contrast to Jaune.
Only if you guys are interested, of course. Some people seemed to want more proactive male characters and this could be interesting.

One. I'd be all for some non smut chapters, Adam and Whitley sound like they could be great to contrast Jaune. One had the fight taken out of him since birth while the other has fought practically since birth. Both lie on equal and opposite extremes and i'd love to see how Jaune reacted to them.
