Awesome video -Did you ever find a better Azo dye process, or any other color really, reactions where light/stencil is used to make a print?

hey would be great if you could do a few videos using chromatography, both TLC and some preparative separations of common substances say paracetamol/asirin/caffeine. Would be great to see this with normal and reversed phase to achieve full rectification of components. I come from an analytical chemistry background and find this fascinating. Many thanks, Karl

Daniel Blake Shoemaker

Thanks Red that info is quite useful.

Daniel Blake Shoemaker

Well I have a germicidal lamp at 254 nm for 30 dollars still put away this would be a perfect project.

Silviu T

Let me guess. Kallitype, with platinum toning.

Dominik Wondrousch

You could make a nice cyanotyped Nile Red T-Shirt and use it as a random giveaway to your supporters.

Michael Aichlmayr

Awesome!

Jean Pierre Daviau

Not aware of the last news on Mars? Methane and C4H4S elements they found? ;o)

Nile Red

ha, no. It was actually part of a magnet strip from ikea though

Nile Red

I would say to use a proper UV lamp. Typical black lights are really weak. Usually because they are coated to block the UV

Nile Red

What's Mars related chem?

Nile Red

Thats a good idea and i never even thought of that!

Nile Red

In the next video, ill show you how to make some much nicer prints :)

Michael Aichlmayr

This is really (really) cool. I've played with pre-made cyanotype paper, but I've always wanted to make my own. I absolutely will be doing this. Great job! Can't wait for the next video!

Maybe you could use a dremel tool with a wire brush to recover more material.

Jean Pierre Daviau

Why not making Mars related chemistry? ;o)

Silviu T

That looks great. Can't wait for future videos about unconventional photochemistry.

Silviu T

You can buy it from certain online stores that cater to artists specializing in alternative photographic techniques. It's a small niche market, and because of that it's not cheap.

Daniel Blake Shoemaker

What would happen Red Nile if you placed this under a beaker of water with a stir rod and a mini cd on the bottom and set to stir and use a small Dark lamp to give UV to the pigment you may get sirling effects on the prussian blue fingerprint dye on cotton paper, etc? It sounds like something i may do when I get get Iron ammonium citrate.

lol @ "like a plant material"

Liz and Ash in Florida. It's very hot! Climate change will kill us all.

Were you using a drawer slide to scrape up the ferric chloride in the last video?

Prussian blue is a colliod (liquid, solid and gel) mix. when I boiled prussian blue pigment in copper pippes it turned into a gel. It interesting.

Nile Red

I should add that its possible to buy it

Nice!! If I was to do this I would by the Ammonium iron citrate on e-bay or prolab.

Another nice artistic way to work with the color blue is using cobalt oxyde in ceramic glazes. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/22/Dutch_delft_tile_topsham.JPG/602px-Dutch_delft_tile_topsham.JPG
