A little bit different from the others!
🕑 Added 2016-08-27 00:06:24 +0000 UTC Hey guys, well this video is quite different from the other ones...because I'm in it! I didn't make a thumbnail for it yet, but let me know what you guys think. Also, I guess this is a face reveal?I really liked appearing in the video and I will probably do some more like this in the future.

You do look different from what I had imagined lol. I had this impression based on your voice and the reflections you can see in the lab glass but I was off a bit lol. Not a bad thing, just saying.

It's not fun to make sticky stuff tho...right??
Make something that smells nice :)

Yeah, I plan to do more. I have been meaning to cover mercury and galium for a really long time...Ill do mercury after I do the distillation video.
Nile Red
What do you mean?
Nile Red
Thanks!

Maybe I should grow the hair and put on some glasses

Do you know of a method to do that home? As far as I know, you need some pretty harsh conditions. I read on wiki that acid catalysis is an option, which might be viable.
Suggestion: Crack large chain hydrocarbons (Propane/Pentane?) into smaller molecules such as Methane.

There are subtle differences that can be taken advantage of. I don't think I'll end up doing it though.

Can't say I know how you'd separate two isotopes of carbon (or anything else, for that matter). But I seem to dimly remember that some chemical reactions are biased one way or the other for different isotopes, which could be the basis of separating isotopes. You're the chemistry expert, though, so beyond rank speculation, I really have nothing useful to offer you. :)
Periodic Videos without the hair and glasses?!?!!
Great video! You appear very natural in front of the camera. I would also like to see more videos like this too alongside the current videos.
Cody ad Nile are antonyms?
The REAVEAL is great - as Vincent (above) says - good to see the man behind the science. As an element collector / synthesiser (similiar to mrHomeScientist), I love these element exploration videos, so a series of element shorts in the Reveal style would be nice to watch.

I have actually never really read about c14/c12 separation. Can you tell me a little about it?
Nile Red
Haha is that good or bad?
Nile Red
I actually planned to make potassium tertbutoxide. Is that similar enough?
Nile Red
Thanks! Also yeah I need to work with lighting. I also agree that a wall full of stuff is more interesting than a black background.
The man behind the science finally reveals himself! Ive been watching your videos across youtube forever, finally able to support the cause. Super cool, Bromine is always an interesting element see in a video. Suggestions, I would like to see a preparation of Sodium Methoxide. Similar to the Aluminum Isopropoxide for sure but much more exothermic!

As for suggestions: if it's even remotely possible with chemical techniques, I'd love to see a video about C14/C12 separation (or enrichment, or depletion, however it works out)

You look nothing like I'd have guessed. :)

Excellent change-up. You have a really nice wall-o-stuff behind you, which is massively better than a blank wall that many new filmmakers use to their detriment. You also have very good camera presence. A lot of people who stay off-cam in their vids do so because they can't pull that off. If you decide keep up with this format, do consider setting up a 2-point lighting system with some cheap fluorescent lighting fixtures, and either turning off or at least partially covering up the light that's directly overhead.
Ya well done man! I like the format and still think your doing a great job!! Keep it up

I felt it was about time I showed myself
Nice! Great to see your face finally! None of the other chemistry channels on YouTube are showing their face on camera.
Nile Red
thanks, I really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Great video as always and also you look great in front of the camera. There must be more videos like this one for sure!
