The difference between then and now is that the deniers don't have enough power, they're just a small bunch. That gives science a lot of agency and freedom, the only restriction is money.

I feel like there are a lot of new revalations that can still happen, we still don't know what is beyond the edge of the observable universe, how some of the biggest black holes and stars were made, if there is confirmed life outside of earth, what the inside of a black hole is. We live in very interesting times, and what the church did back in the 1500's is still happening today, just not by the church itself. While we are discovering more than ever today we have so much push backwards with flat earthers, anti vaccers, climate change deniers and similar. But just like the premise of the show, humanity will always find a way to move forward and learn more about the universe.

When Oczy said he can't read I assume he meant latin (the language of science) but notes of his companion were most likely in their native language which he probably is able to read to some extent

this episode's ending hits hard because you can see in real time how the character just obtained hope, he looks up at the night sky, which he used to believe it was looking down on him, and sees nothing but the beauty of the stars, earth and heavens are one and the same now
