Commentary
Larry has no problem with this.
It's POSSIBLE their placement in those last two panels could be taken literally, but either Larry rolled the dice really far from where he's sitting and they both moved to look at it, or Ellen moved Nanase out of the way to stand there.
In any case, I just like that visual of them staring down at the dice, so physical laws of reality be darned.

A lot of games have a "succeed with major consequence" on failure option, where, if you can have the player characters still succeed at their goal on a failed roll, but in a way that causes big problems in the future. This keeps the plot from being written into the corner by a bad roll of the dice.

Good for Ellen since this is a one-shot game, no need to derail it more than it has already been derailed

For what it's worth, 2s, and 3s tend to be worth getting up to look at if a 3 would succeed. Especially if a 2 would have failed and you're playing with those crappy dice that came with the old D&D sets. You know, the ones that first start showing wear during your first gaming session? Eventually, we actually took a pen and wrote some of the numbers in their indentation to make them stand out better. That works best if you only do that for half of an ambiguous pair.
