Seriously, the inspiration for their "what is canon" scenario is Star Wars novels. Those have humans, but they're from a galaxy far, far away, so they're presumably NOT human?
They might not be aliens, but they're aliens.

Well, *obviously*, we came from there, right? The only other option is that there was convergent evolution which resulted in a race that not only looks like us, sounds like us, moves like us, but also has called itself the same thing. Of course, the idea that it's translated can account for all of that. And if that makes you suddenly not trust that translator... well, then I feel like I'm missing something.
