Dan Shive

(Also, "ha ha, I am too powerful to fear your weapons" sounds like exactly the sort of thing an antagonist might say immediately before being defeated by said weapons.)

Dan Shive

Well, one, she's not a genie, two, she's definitely NOT bulletproof, and three, that is definitely a concern on top of conventional weapons.

Stephen Gilberg

Chap, while both disarming and disrobing make you more vulnerable, disrobing is far less necessary and, to most people, far more humiliating. And if you didn't know the purpose of the latter, you might fear imminent rape. Dan, part of my hangup here is that most genies seem too invincible to bother disarming their enemies. Is Genie Ashley not bulletproof? Or does she fear that the mercenaries carry magical artifacts suitable for harming her?

Dan Shive

It's fine if people aren't fans of it. We all have our own associations and perspectives. It's one reason why I emphasized what exactly Ashley was doing with a sound effect, and will be further clarifying why it was so thorough in the next comic. I personally am okay with it in this context, but one could reasonably disagree, or be too reminded of different context to be cool with it.

Chap

How is it any different from removing a weapon from someone's person against their will?

IvyReed

"Beg for your miserable lives!" Sarah sheds a single tear in fear/intimidation possibly also her eyes are just watering a bit, Ashley scoops her up "ooooh sweetie I'm so sorry!" pats her head.

Stephen Gilberg

There was controversy in the comments on "Grrl Power" when a bodyguard stripped a hot alien, presumably for disarming. Of course, that was a worse scenario, because a man was propositioning her at the same time, and her immediate inclination was a no.

gaybunny

none of that makes this better.

Dan Shive

As the sound effect implies, it's an indiscriminate "disarm" magic that leaves nothing to chance. The loss of clothing is an unavoidable side effect of something that instantaneous and thorough regardless of the actual intent being the removal of any and all potential weaponry.

Daryl Sawyer

Adventurers face far worse. Can we agree that trying to eat her face is even less cool? (I'm sure something has tried to eat her face at some point; happens to all the adventurers.)

Stephen Gilberg

Nuh uh. Stripping people naked against their will is not cool.

Copper Hamster

So they're not as prepared as Captain Jack?

M.

And suddenly Ashley was a Dragon Ball Z character. :P

ZekeStaright

Good Job Nanase...

KiTA

It's a perfectly reasonable tactic for disarming people. The Dragon Doctors had a character who used a similar spell all the time. No hidden weapons and disorientates / distracts the target.

Fenrir

>Grab your arms from the chest (sorry not sorry)

coredumperror

That entire description of why Ashley was so thorough with her disarmament could have been skipped by simply repeating one of Sarah's previous lines: "She's into it." :) Also, I think this is probably the first time I've ever seen the "become giant for extra intimidation" bit get done in reverse. If anything, shrinking your targets is probably a *better* intimidation tactic than growing larger. It proves that you can affect them physically, and that you're not just using an illusion to look bigger.

Never thought I’d see Ashley succeed on an intimidation check! They’re just lucky she didn’t disarm them even more thoroughly and take away their arms.
