The gods of shuffling were MEANIES!

Saint Bernard got explained in the commentary for a different reason. Visual variation on playtest cards would either be just text, or an image possibly more time consuming to put together than just showing the affected player would be.

That worked quite well in the Magical Gatherings storylines (Duel of the Discs, etc), because you had the space on the page. You would probably lose a full panel in EGS:NP for info that may or may not turn out to be relevant.

It would make the dialogue less cluttered, and would be an opportunity for visual variation that explains the entire card completely. Like, you wouldn't have needed to use the commentary to explain that the Saint Bernard allows a player to de-transform themselves if we could have read its card.

I don't understand how that would help. It would still be the same exposition, just in card form.

I kind of wish we could see the cards themselves so the characters didn't have to keep expositing.
