I was speaking in general terms especially in relation to historical periods where it was not always safe to speak out against topics such as slavery e.g. UK and America but texts were a safe way to critique those issues and the inhumanity of it without being censored. The point I was making is that texts are often a safe way to critique and get people to think outside of their typical perspective without the threat of condemnation.
