about the to love ru, are you asking why they used that joke at that moment or are you asking in general why the love using to love ru as a joke setup. its essentially a pun on "trouble" and "to love ru" which are pronounced exactly the same. not to mention if you dont know to love ru you probably think they are speaking normally.
