Saturn's Zoan Devil Fruit is based on the gyūki, a yōkai from Japanese folklore who is described with having the head of an ox and the body of a six-legged spider. According to folklore, the gyūki is known for causing incurable illnesses for anyone who encounters it. Mars' Devil Fruit is based on the "itsumade", a yōkai who is often depicted in artworks as an ominous snake-like bird with a human face and sharp teeth. Ironically, the word "itsumade" is not the original name of the creature (which is otherwise unnamed), but rather it refers to its specific human-like cry (a Japanese expression that roughly translates to "until when?"). Warcury's Devil Fruit is based on the fengxi, a two-headed boar yāoguài with origins dating back to the Western Han dynasty. It was first mentioned in the Masters of Huainan as one of the six monsters that devastated the countryside during the reign of Emperor Yao in the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors period. Nusjuro's Devil Fruit is based on the Bakotsu, a relatively obscure yōkai from one of the sixteen tales of the Tosa Obake Zōshi written in Japan's Edo Period, which is said to be a horse that burned to death. Only Ju Peter´s Form is not based on an Yokai but instead might be inspired by artist John Schoenherr's illustrations of the 1965 novel Dune.
