The forests of OTW are swirling with various anomalous phenomena, and in some cases, they may be connected to other dimensions. In that case, it is not a portal or a dimensional gap that appears, but rather a change of dimension at some point in the forest or in the fog. the OTW has mainly conifers and other mainly cold-weather vegetation, but when you cross dimensions, you may notice anomalies due to changes in those vegetation groups. The ANNA has been working on this for many years.
ANNA has risked its life over the years to study this anomaly and has found reproducibility in some of the phenomena. The "loophole" she uses to return to the PMD world is part of it, and presumably she knows the conditions for a Backrooms-like disappearance and transition (or like a glitch in the game).
She also relies mostly on stockpiles of water and food, so she uses a cart when she has a lot of shopping and procuring to do. This, of course, is hard work for her.
As she stares blankly at the surface of the lake, I wonder if she is remembering her past.
