Ahhh gotcha. I'll just watch the first couple episodes to see if it's decent enough, but I guess since it's been on my hard drive for 2 years+ then I'm not in too big of a rush to watch it xD

The anime doesn't make much sense until the later episodes in the first season. The fandom was created and gathered based around the game, but the anime helps getting people to know the series though. You can give it a try, but I don't highly recommend it as a "good" anime. It's just decent.
