Tony chuckled and judged the man's attire, slowly looking up and down. The suit was a bit too tight and old-fashioned. "Remind me to send you my stylist."
Captain looked down and sighed. Even he felt out of place. "Maybe later."
Quickly after, Natasha landed the Quinjet and they took off with Loki as their prisoner. It was nighttime and cloudy, but they still rushed as much as they could to reach the Helicarrier.

Thor released Loki. "Tell me, where is the Tesseract, Loki? Tell me, or Father will descend upon Midgard himself!"
"I'll wait for his visit then. And I've sent the cube off, I know not where."

"Calm down, we're all after the same thing." Tony interrupted them. "You can shout at him until your voice cracks, but trust me, he's not gonna fold. Look at that smug face—He's stalling us, saving time for…"
"Invasion." Thor blurted, looking tensely back at Tony.
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard, nor any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the Earth, in return, I suspect, for the Tesseract."
"An army? From outer space?" Steve exclaimed. The world had changed a little too much, it felt.
But Tony was silent at that moment. His snarky response didn't come for a long time.
"Thanos?" Tony blurted out of nowhere, at Thor. "Does that ring a bell?"
"Why do you know that name?" Thor responded loudly.
Steve and Natasha both silently looked at them, but they didn't fail to notice Loki's slight flinch.
Tony continued. "Some time ago, I found a hidden spaceship in orbit—It belonged to the Kree. I did a little digging and deconstructed the thing. And guess what? The database mentioned that the Chitauri is an army commanded by Thanos."
"Kree?" Thor seemed alarmed by that. "What are they doing here?"
"Earth's had its fair share of visitors, buddy. You’re gonna need to get in line," Tony quipped and continued. "I’ve cracked the whole database, but when it comes to Thanos and the Chitauri? Just one line."
Thor turned his gaze sharply to Loki, a storm brewing in his eyes. "Is this truly your choice, brother? Have you allied yourself with Thanos? For what gain? A mere planet to rule?"
"Who is this Thanos?" Steve inquired impatiently. "How big of a threat is he?"
“Thanos is a genocidal warlord of immense power. He delights in subjugating entire planets, erasing half their population as if he’s some twisted savior—believing he’s sparing them from their own doom. At times, he wipes them all out and sells the planet for profit. They call him the Mad Titan for good reason! You do not want him setting his sights on Midgard. No, you are ill-prepared for the horrors of this higher warfare.”
"And the Kree?" Tony asked further.
"More or less the same—The Kree, those wretched blue-skinned humanoids from the planet Hala, are a militaristic race steeped in arrogance! They possess immense technological prowess! A galactic Empire, they claim dominion over at least a thousand worlds—Midgard is nothing before them."
"So… space Nazis?" Steve commented with a tired sigh.
"Feeling like the old days, Cap?" Tony jokingly commented before sitting down again. "Chitauri or Kree, we're about as prepared for an alien invasion as a cat in a dog park. Our only shot now is to track down the Tesseract before this edgy problem child invites his blue army."
"That is correct. We must find it before the portal is opened,” Thor agreed.
"Alright, let’s get moving," Tony muttered and focused on things within his Iron Man helmet. He didn't allow his voice to go out anymore and chatted with Jarvis. "Quick, whip up a dossier on everything from the SHIELD facility to now. Make sure to highlight the alien threat part. Send it over to Xavier, and let him know I’ll call soon. If Loki won’t spill, I’ll just have to squeeze it out of his head."
"Understood, Sir."

A little more than an hour later, they all arrived on the Helicarrier.
Loki was quickly thrown into the special cell, and everyone else gathered for a quick meeting. It went better than expected as the entire interaction in the Quinjet was also transmitted to Fury. All were already aware of the alien invasion threat.
So, Tony got together with Bruce and quickly started building the device to find the Tesseract. That was the easy part since they also had the scepter with them. By matching the Gamma readings, they could scan the world.

“Yeah, thanks for that, Tony. Things are just calm now. The big guy’s still in there, but don’t worry, he’s just… sleeping,” Bruce muttered, truly grateful to Tony since he personally lacked the wealth and the pull to secure his freedom without joining some side. Now, he was just a Stark Industries registered researcher, and the company backed his freedom. SHIELD, the government, nobody could do anything. “By the way, I read your file on the Tesseract. You know exactly what they're doing, Tony! Why find it for them? Why are you being their Oppenheimer?"
"Oppenheimer?" Steve walked in just then. Of all the names, he had read about that one during the war. "What's going on? Are you planning on something, Mr. Stark?"
Tony looked at the old man wearing a young skin. "Depends—Are you loyal to the country or the government?"
"What's the difference?" Steve asked, his brows furrowed.
Tony chuckled and shared a glance with Bruce, who was also chuckling. "It's the twenty-first century, Cap. What you see could be an illusion, and what you hear could be a lie. It's a planet with billions of Lokis—things are different. Why don’t you pop over to level five and check the warehouse? I hear there are answers about what Fury's hiding there."
Steve sternly looked at Tony's face, wanting to retort. But, having met him before, he silently retreated and left the lab.
"Why are you treating him like a kid?" Bruce asked from the side.
Tony shrugged and returned to work. "The guy’s still a kid at heart. I mean, how old was he when he turned into a popsicle? Twenty-something? No wonder he’s got that over-the-top patriotic vibe going on. Just give him a couple of years—he’ll be downing whiskeys and contemplating the meaning of life like a true hero."
"Can't you stop all this?" Bruce asked suddenly, stopping the work. "You'll be doing a service to the world."
"Can't—It's not November yet."

"No." Fury stepped out from behind the cover and ran up to the controls. He noticed the mess across the entire ship. "Stark, head to Loki!"
"The green guy's awake!" Tony voiced at the same time. He just saw through his Iron Guardian camera sent with Natasha. It was barely standing now.
He wasted no time and rushed through the hallways, taking shortcuts through the holes made from all the blasts. He went down the floors one after another and landed.

"Where is he?" Tony looked for the big green guy, even using the cameras. "He's… nowhere."
"We got a bigger issue, Stark," Fury spoke through the comms. "Loki escaped… He killed Coulson."
Tony accessed the camera in his helmet and saw the scene. Fury was kneeling beside Coulson's body. The holding cell for Loki was lost already.
Everything froze at that moment. Many had died that day, but knowing someone personally among them was a different thing.

"Yes, we were going to build an arsenal with the Tesseract. I never put all my chips on that number though, because I was playing something even riskier. There was an idea, Stark knows this—he's the advisor to the whole thing. Called the Avengers Initiative.
"The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to fight battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea—In heroes."
"New York!" Tony stood up abruptly, his face lacking the usual easygoing look. He knew Fury's bluff, but Coulson was dead, and that was all that mattered. So, he decided to take things seriously for once—as seriously as Tony Stark could. "Jarvis just alerted me—They're setting up the Tesseract on top of the Stark Tower!"
Fury gave Agent Hill a glance and a nod. Quickly, the Helicarrier shifted its direction and course corrected itself.
Tony rubbed his face tiredly and stepped into his suit of armor once again. "Cap, the Avengers is yours—I'm just an advisor."
With that, he left and flew out of the Helicarrier with his four remaining Iron Guardians. But midflight, he continued to prepare himself for the worst.
It was time to get serious.
"Jarvis, call in all the Iron Guardians from all twenty-four States," Tony ordered. "Initiate God's Eye and swarm them all around the city."
Tony's newest creation, a gadget made from decoding the Anti-gravity knowledge from the Kree ship. A small, golf-ball-sized drone with independent flight, high-definition cameras, and high-intensity explosives. The entire Stark Tower was fitted with them.
"All two-hundred and forty Iron Guardians are on their way, Sir. God's Eye has been initiated." Jarvis quickly sent all the needed commands. "God's Eye engaged."
"Alert Charles and tell him to reach Manhattan asap."

"Fuck!" Tony cursed at the sight of the behemoth whale-like thing that entered. Was it a machine or a creature? How the hell was it flying? Thousands of questions came to his mind. But the biggest was, "That's gonna be a challenge. Jarvis, speed up!"
Tony flew closer to the massive whale and tried to use his energy weapons on it. He looked for a weak spot since the rest of it was covered in armor.
"Not there." He struck the thing everywhere. "Ah, it's turning around."
Woosh!
"Now it's chasing me." Tony started flying away from it at that point. Jarvis controlled a few Iron Guardians to make it leave Tony's trail. But, the whale remained steady behind Tony. "Cap, got any ideas?"
"Banner's here."
"Great, tell him to wake up the big guy!"
Tony changed his direction right away, taking a quick turn around the building. And just like that, there was the big green guy he had kept hidden in his basement for so long.
Wraaaaa!
BOOM!
And just like that, Hulk smashed the alien whale with one punch. It seemed to rile up the entire Chitauri army, and Hulk's roar was like a declaration of challenge.
Tony landed and regrouped with them all, back to back, in a circle.
Grrrr~
"That's too much," Tony exclaimed when he looked up and saw so many more Chitauri and those whales entering. There appeared no end in sight. "We're outnumbered."
"Who's that?" Captain pointed his finger at the sky suddenly.
Tony looked too and took a sigh of relief. A man flying in the sky as if standing, arms wide, a weird metal helmet on his head.
I hope we weren't too late, Mr. Stark.
Tony heard a voice right inside his head. "You're on time, head-master."
Let's save the world then.
"Right about that," Tony said and announced to the Avengers. "Backup's here—Get ready, Cap."
Crack!
Crack!
Right before everyone's eyes, in the sky, the man in the helmet ripped apart one of the massive whales with just a gesture of his hand. Soon, beside him appeared a woman with red hair, and she crushed the whale with one clasp of her fist, and all the Chitauri around her exploded spontaneously.
Quickly after, a woman with white hair appeared in the sky. As if reacting to her raised arms, a storm formed in the sky, and right after that, thunder struck everywhere—the Chitauri all around burned and fell.
"Wait, that's my thing!" Thor exclaimed and leaped into the sky to meet the woman.
"Who are they, Tony?" Captain America asked.
Tony chose not to reveal their mutant status. "Consider them colleagues—Avengers."
"Fine with me." Steve shrugged and started giving orders with that.
Tony also flew up and hovered in the air, his suit gleaming as he glanced at Erik. "You should go down and help save the people. Your powers will be useful in evacuation. Make sure people learn your superhero name and remember you."
"Ordering me now, Stark?" Erik coldly asked back.
Tony shrugged. "Just advising."
Erik chuckled and stopped using his powers. "I was merely joking, Stark. It seems you're an oracle, predicting an alien invasion—I believe you."
Quickly, Erik left to do as Tony told him. The old man understood the power of positive PR.
With Storm busy combining her powers with Thor's to create a giant thunderstorm, it was Tony and Jean left in the sky. The redheaded woman gave him the side eye every now and then.
She's gorgeous. Too bad, she violates minds.
"No, I don't!"
"You just did." Tony stared at her dumbfounded face.
"I-I was just interested in what you were thinking. It wasn't me the last time, Mr. Stark. It was the Phoenix… It's an entity living in me." Jean tried to clear things up, a bit flustered. "I respect people's privacy."
"How many fingers are behind my back?"
"Four!"
"You did it again!" Tony caught her snooping yet again. "Reading minds may just be an instinct to you, but it's not the right instinct."
Jean shut her lips tight after that and focused back on destroying the aliens.
Cute. Tony chuckled and flew away, dealing with things his own way. A lot of help had arrived, as he could see Logan smashing through Chitauri, and Jean's boyfriend beaming lasers. Raven was also there, pairing up nicely with Natasha.
The entire world is watching you all.
Tony tried to help the Mutants as much as he could. But he still feared this wouldn't be enough. The number of Chitauri entering was only increasing by the second. It was like they were multiplying in real-time.
Even Thor and Ororo appeared tired in the distance. It was total chaos on the ground too. His Iron Guardians were falling apart after continuous battles, and the God's Eye drones were already expanded.
There's no end to this.

Helicarrier,
"Sir, we have a bird in motion!" Agent Hill alerted in a rush, tapping on the screen.
Fury heard her clearly and ran as fast as he could to the deck. He grabbed a rocket launcher midway.
No hesitation. No doubt about what he was doing. He knew that one wrong strike and the nukes could explode right then and there. But they were on the sea, at least. He was willing to make that sacrifice to save the city.
BOOM!
He destroyed one of the jets.
Whoosh!
But the second one got away.
Fury rushed back to the ship's main bridge. "Stark, do you hear me? You have a missile headed straight for the city!"
"How long?"
"Three minutes, max," Fury answered. "The payload will wipe out Midtown."
Fury stopped talking after that and rushed to Hill to see if they could disarm the plane in some way. But he found Hill unmoving, staring at the screen.
"Director…" Agent Hill muttered. "Look at the missile's trajectory… It's…"

"Jarvis! Everything into the thrusters!" Tony flew with a roar, heading away from the city with a speech unmatched. He watched the state of his colleagues on the ground, in the midst of being overwhelmed by the Chitauri who continued to arrive in swarms.
Woosh!
He headed straight towards the missile. He had to, since it wasn’t just Manhattan that would be affected. There were people he cared about who lived nearby.
Beep! Beep!
But all of a sudden, Tony's warning systems started to beep.
"Sir, it appears the missile is locked on you."
"WHAT?!"
Tony quickly deployed the flares in his suit. But the missile didn't seem to be following his heat signature. It was locked directly onto his specific suit.
"Fuck!" Tony changed his direction and began flying towards the portal, the missile was right behind him. Thankfully, his suit was far stronger and faster. He maintained the gap between him and the missile. "Jarvis, you better not miss a single shot! Prepare the Iron Guardians—We're going in."
Woosh!
Who authorized this? The President? No, he's not this foolish.
The entire world reported everything in real-time thanks to Jarvis and Stark Industries' coordinated effort. But at that point, Tony felt a real threat to his life.
"Jarvis, you'd have only five seconds."
"Simulations have been completed, Sir. Preparing the maneuver."
Woosh!
Tony flew up in a direct curve, headed towards the portal.
This better win me the damn election… If I live.
Shhhh~
He dodged the Chitauri.
It was so fast that everything passed by him in a flash.
Bright blue sky around him one moment, darkness the next. The view changed in front of his eyes, a frightening scene that he knew was going to haunt him for a long long time.
"NOW!"
Clack!
Clack!
In deep dark space, Tony's armor shifted. It opened and left his body within a second.
Left bare, unprotected, he felt the effects instantly. But he had exhaled all his breath out already, so the sudden pressure change didn't blow his lungs. But he only had five seconds before his blood boiled and he died.
Clack!
Clack!
Right then, an Iron Guardian suit appeared right behind him and caught him in its grasp, surrounding him with metal all around. The suits were space flight capable, so they instantly fired up the life support mechanism.
Within five seconds, Tony changed his suit in the vacuum of space.
But, he was on the verge of losing his mind. In half-conscious, he stared at the distance where his previous suit flew and rammed into the massive alien mothership. The nuke exploded like a sun, without any sound but so much light.
His body fell back through the portal, pulled by gravity and his suit's aid too. In silence, he watched the single most haunting thing of his life. A small glimpse of what lay there in the stars. Enemies so advanced that defeating them felt impossible.
Beings so powerful that struggling was futile.
Much needed to change on Earth, and now he was glad he was running in that election.
Shwooo~
He felt the portal close around him. But thankfully, he crossed over just in time.
He didn't fall in a freefall, thankfully, and the Iron Guardian, despite being damaged, brought him safely to the ground and laid him flat on the rubble.
I-I'm alive.
Clank!
Bright light struck his eyes as his faceplate was forcibly removed by Thor. It was completely unnecessary as the suit was working.
Cough!
Tony coughed up. Breathing air never felt so nice in his life. He looked at the faces of Thor, Steve, Hulk, Magneto, Jean, and Storm. "I'm good, no need to kiss me—unless it's the ladies."
Steve chuckled and nodded. "We won."
"Yeah, and I'm craving some nice shawarma," Tony muttered, almost on the verge of falling asleep. But he pulled himself together and looked at Steve. "By the way, Cap, I think I want to use that 'I owe you' in a few days."
"For what, Tony?"
"Election is coming, what else?"
